Sammy's lyrics...

In a previous thread, someone said 'Judgement Day' was a weak VH tune...Personally, I like it. However, looking at Sammy albums, I'm struck by some lame as shit lyrics...

Dave may not be a guitar player, but his lyrics never were weak...

For example, Sam sings all the ways to love someone and sings it's 'Not Enough' What is enough??

"Wham, Bam, Amsterdam"...nuff sed!

"1-900-Spanked"...1-900-whatever...

IMO, a few potential VH classics get ruined by some of Sam's lyrics...'Amsterdam' is a prime example...

anyone agree?

Now, I don't like all of Sam's stuff. Spanked and Man On A Mission leave me feeling hollow.

Lot's of people don't like Amsterdam. Why? I think it's because Eddie said he didn't like the way it turned out. Fucking sheep...

Seriously, I really like that tune. Sammy's trying to convey what it's like to be on the road and take a little break in Amsterdam.

Not Enough is a pretty good tune too. It's hard for me to think of what somebody could dislike about it.

Now, Big Fat Money on the other hand... what the hell is that?

I think Sammy's lyrics are pretty good. However, in the long run, I'd have to say Dave's were a little bit better.

Actually, I DO like Not Enough, I dig where Sammy is comin' from on that one. I like Amsterdam too, I'd rather have "Hot Damn, Amsterdam" than some overserious political statement any day of the week.

I really like Not Enough, beautiful song and lyrics. What I didn't like was Sammy prefacing the song live by blabbing on and on (and on and on

) about "to get love you've got to give love" etc. To me, a song is like a joke; if you've got to explain it, you've missed the mark.

Amen on Judgement Day...a great song. Spanked was good live, Not Enough is really great, and Man On A Mission is just like Spanked: great live. Speaking of Not Enough, was that a prototype Wolfgang guitar that Eddie had? The pickups looked all black and square instead of the way they are now.

Either way, the Wolfie is one of Ed's greatest inventions.

No, I think Sammy is a incredible songwriter and I love really love the lyrics that he writes!

I can relate to most of the songs he writes much more than I can to DLR's or any other singer.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the lyrics to Amsterdam!

I have spoken to people from Amsterdam and they have told me everything said in the lyrics in that song is true.

Th only VH songs that I can think of that I think that Sammy could have written better lyrics to are Source Of Infection and Humans Being.

As a rule I prefer Dave's lyrics. Probably because I'm a smartass y'know. But some of Sammy's lyrics do hit home like Not Enough and Don't Tell Me, or Aftershock... I gotta say I don't like the lyrics on humans being, they're a little heavy handed. "that's what makes us humans being" and all that...

IMO, natch.

Actually, on the topic of the line, "1-900-SPANKED," that's a lot better line than it seems.

Considering the song is about a late night sex hotline 900 number, it shows he thought about it.

1-900-SPA-NKED (or 1-900-772-6533 for those who think in numbers).

See, he at least thought to name the line/song after a 7 digit number

LOL....You gotta give Sammy credit there regarding Spanked.

Actually I personally think that Sammy's lyrics tend to be hit and miss. At times I think they are well done, bordering on brilliant...Examples would include: Mine All Mine, Don't Tell Me (What love Can Do), Not Enough, "5150" (Love the lyrics in that one), and In 'N' Out (I love how that one is about always owing money and NOT what the title might first suggest! Brilliant! IMO!)and The Seventh Seal and Not Enough...

Then there are the "Bad Ones"...Examples are numerous: Source Of Infection stands up as # 1 in my book, AFU Naturally Wired as well, parts of Amsterdam (Love the music but some of the lyrics aarrgghhhh), Man On A Mission......those are the main ones...

I like Sammy...But he is hit and miss at times...
