Time to piss off the neighbors... Try this at home.
Take your Balance cd, turn the stereo 10 (11 if you're Spinal Tap), sit back and FEEL the gigantic boom of Al's drums, the relentless attack of Mikeys bass, and the "mammoth" warmth of Edwards guitar as "The Seventh Seal" rips through your humble abode...
Then, when that song is over, without changing any of the levels, grab your 0U812 cd, put that in and push play.

DAMMIT that thing needs to be remastered
A remix to prove Mikey was actually there would be nice too. While I prefer the Dave-era, these are my two favorite Van Hagar albums. Production-wise, I'd have to say BALANCE is much better. It's one of the best-produced VH albums ever. Song-wise, I actually prefer OU812. It's my favorite Van Hagar album only because the music most closely resembles their older work. It's got some really catchy stuff...more hooks than any other Hagar album (except FINISH WHAT YA STARTED...I know the song is popular, but I can't stand it!).

You know, I never thought about how good OU812 would be if mixed as well as Balance...
Damn, Mine All Mine would be killer if you brought out the bass and cleared things up.
I think that may be one of the reasons why I like Balance so much, the sound is just so full and awesome. I always just thought I liked the songs better, but when I think about it, it's about the same mix of favorites and throw-aways as any of the other albums, but it sounds a lot better. And, it's the last one they did with Sam, so there is a weight to that.

No doubt about it, the sound of Balance is much better than OU812. The start of the music on "The Seventh Seal" is loud and powerful, while OU812 needs to be remastered to sound that good.

Yeah that video is fantastic. Chris has been so under the radar for the last few decades, great to see him getting some recognition and attention via this.
