Getting Excited, will be there!
103 section, about 20 rows back...... huge Satriani fan as well as VH
...have been avoiding as many spoiler vids as I can, but I had to glimpse the setlist ....so I could help my daughter "study"! :)
I know it's summer, but it's gonna be HOT.....
According to the venue website you can bring up to a gallon (sealed) of water in....or 1 sealed water bottle per person.
.....many years ago I tried to do this at the same venue, having opened the water bottles and re-filled them ........with Cabo.
Security was not amused, told us to dump it or drink at the gate entrance.
My buddy SLAMMED his. I stupidly tried to match him...................that didn't go well either.
The shit you do as a kid............

Go see the tour. It is amazing.
The setlist hasn’t been posted online yet, but I think it’s pretty much the same. I know they did Helter Skelter again tonight. So I’ve got that updated. I found a few videos, so those are up now too.

Great show!!!!
Setlist WAS the same as the previous night.
UNIQUE aspects:
-no DTNA in the Top of the World rideout
-Joe's guitar was missing in the beginning of Seventh Seal!!! I think I could (barely) hear it from on-stage, so I think the PA system just had a technical issue. But we had a good loud guitar-backing track for the first 12-15 seconds (I think) of the song, once it started in proper.
-Sammy trolled all the Cubs fans in the crowd by donning a "5150" Cardinals jersey.... you could hear the boos mid-song! (He laughed it off after the song ended, by claiming that everyone must have chanted "Bruuuuuce" (Springsteen) Then he switched to a White Sox jersey. So double-thumbs down (in good fun) from me personally, but it was pretty funny :)|
Sam laughed as he said "You knooow I am a trouble maker :)" FURTHER CONTEXT: The Cardinals had come from behind late to beat the Cubs only a couple hours before the concert. Saw it on the sports bar TV while pre-gaming. Not sure how much of the above was coincidence/accident/planned :)
Non-unique aspects:
-Loverboy was decent but MAN they looked old (keeping in mind Sam's band are no spring chickens either)....sounded decent though.
-Sammy's production value was as good as I have ever seen it (and this includes his Van Halen shows).... they really splurged on great video effects, lighting sync'd well to the music, etc. Reminded me of 2008/2009-era Def Leppard production (my other fav band).
It felt visually immersive and stunning when it got dark (show start was around sunset here in Central Time; previous night in MI was just East and an hour ahead, so they had more sunlight than us).
-Good Enough was a POWERFUL opener....could really feel that beat. It kicked ass!!! I believe I saw the Waboritas play it (and truncated versions of 5150 and Summer Nights) in the past, but this was WAAAAY better. Great opening.
-I liked the "Celebration" add-on to Best of Both Worlds... However, I had to tap my casual-VH-fan buddy and tease him that Kool and the Gang once again found its way into the show (he was miserable in 2007 during that opening!)
-I have seen Satriani a couple times in Chickenfoot and once in a G3 show. He was phenomenal as always. I personally was hoping he would finally play "Summer Song" (as teased in earlier setlist ideas), but Satch Boogie kicked ass too. Most people I have seen still tuned in during a solo spot, because the band was thumping along well. It did not slow the shwo down at all.
-other favs of mine were Judgement Day, 5150, and Summer Nights, which was great because it was hot AF yesterday.... high 80s, and high humidity, not a lot of airflow down in the 103 section.
-as another reviewer had posted for an earlier show, the first 2/3 of this show is like a freight train, there is almost no let up in energy. I wouldn't agree that the Sammy-centric portion is a letdown, but after 70-ish minutes of straight adrenaline, any slower tempo is noticeable!
--speaking of which, with a 2+ hour setllist, I don't think any band member EVER gets a break in the show? No Sammy acoustic spot, so it's balls to the walls the whole time. Mikey is probably working harder on this tour than any VH tour, no breaks!!!!
-Sammy was noticably (IMO) running out of gas during Jump (or just not as into it, or both). That said, I MYSELF, in repectable shape at 48, was tired just standing there in the crowd by that point (but happy as hell of course). I have NO IDEA how these older guys do it on the stage. Hats off, and inspiration to me and many others!
-my 11-year old daughter loved it. She has been exposed to so much VH in the house (and via my guitar playing) that she recognized almost every song. Loving this part of her life before she rejects everything Daddy believes in. lol
Cannot recommend enough. See it twice if you can!!
