Thanks, Brett. That's pretty cool of you to post.

Still, those lyrics are cheesy as hell. I can't wait to read the inevitable addendum to Kevin Dodd's EVH book. I bet he will wax poetic about how wonderful the lyrics are regardless.

Crazy Dragon Magic?? Maybe he should have left that one alone instead of changing it to "sexy dragon magic"

This still shows that you can write lyrics and then they will be slightly different when you sing lyrics as there are still a few phrases written there that are sung differently.

Still very cool to see these. It's like for the early Rush albums Peart did this sort of thing with drawings and stylings with the song names, etc. Yet, when one listens to the albums Geddy is singing some lines differently because phrasing them along with the music usually changes the iambic pentameter.

Wait. What?

It's a post with cool info from Brett. What does Kevin Dodd's book have to do with it? Lots of other threads to diss him in. :smokin: And the first sentence was a joke. There's been a Amazon.com stalker that continuously slams the author and book in every thread on the site.

Just because they are handwritten doesn't mean that they are original - unless you believe that the words came out in one perfect stream of conciousness. Most handwritten lyric sheets have words crossed out, doodles, etc. There are probabaly multiple sheets with different brain droppings and the final version was written down later.

Oh. Cool. I get it now. Was a little clueless there for a minute. :o

Yeah, Brett posting that was really cool. Loved that he did. Probably shouldn't have taken the little jab at Dodds. I didn't realize he was was being e-stalked on here. I've seen that huge thread about his book, but didn't notice he was being slammed in numerous threads. My bad. :o x 2

Quite a tangent there, eh? Incidentally, I don't think "cheesy" means what you think it does.

Looks like our 50,000 page thread that discusses it evolved to getting the words correct.

For example, it is "Needle", not "that need will" , etc.

No no, over at Amazon.com there was this moron who insisted on slamming the book and the author personally in every thread over there. It was kinda creepy. Anywho, I was just yankin your chain on that one. It's all good. :)

Well there it is folks, we can now end the Shakespearian debate of the words.

That is awesome to see. However I agree that it's odd not to see words crossed out on a lyric sheet.

I am sure he does, and then writes one up final.

Even this one doesn't match the song 100%.

I don't suppose we have any graphologists on The Links, do we?

This debate over the lyrics is all well and good but I for one would be much more interested in what the handwriting reveals about Dave's personality. For instance, isn't it curious that it's written entirely in capital letters? I wonder what that should tell us...

Well clearly this is the good copy. Don't you guys remember grade school where you had to have a rough draft with all your corrections and mistakes, and then submit the polished copy to the teacher? I think the lyrics are pretty good actually.

I confess, I am a very sad and pathetic individual but I have done a little bit of research into DLR's style of handwriting...:drunk:

Apparently, a person who writes almost entirely in capital letters is desperately trying to hide their true, inner selves and insecurities from the public eye. They therefore often create a facade of false bravado.

Overly flourished capitals [flourished letters have large and extra curls], as we see in this example by Mr Roth, are a sign of vanity, the need to garner the attentions of others by wearing bizarre gold lame matador outfits, waving jazz hands about and riding on large inflatable microphones. (OK, I added those last bits in myself)

Sounds about right though, I'd say.

I write in all caps. But it's not cause I'm trying to hide something. I do it solely because my dad wrote that way. And I think he did it that way for clarity while working at McDonnell Douglas for 35 years, back when every inter-office message was either typed out or handwritten.

Yikes! You want to be careful, 47 - that sounds highly dangerous. I'd suggest that you ensure you have somebody with you on the occasions you feel the need to re-watch the video.

Out of curiousity, 47, and as somebody who seems to have access to the most bizarre pictures / TV footage etc, are you familiar with the eighties British comedian, Kenny Everett? He had a sketch where he would wear THE most enormous white gloved hands and wave them about in a manner similar to that being portrayed here - I have a horrible feeling that without his inflatable microphone, Dave might invest in a pair of those hands for the tour...........So, just watch yourself, OK?

Yeah, the sites I visited did also say that various professions entailed the perpetual use of capital letters - but that didn't seem to fit with our Dave - so I didn't include it...Sorry about that!:)

Funny thing with Daves "jazz hands". In one section of the video, the camera pans away as dave is doing his jazz hands in the airnext to Ed and to me it is VERY reminiscent of what he does in teh Jump video during (Ithink) the key solo. Its so close I actually wonder if it might be intentional. point being in 1984, it didnt look like Jazz Hands, now as a nearly 60yo, it looks like Jazz Hands

Having just found an image of these mighty hands, the stars are in alignment and I can now predict that David LEE Roth will indeed don a pair for the tour - Everett's character was called Brother LEE Love. Spooky or what?:scared:

Yeah.. I can see that wasn't his angle but all the same, wouldnt it have been more meaningful to have had SOME kind of reference to his thoughts when he wrote this because it those lyrics are really worth understanding. An old mining scene, a housewife at the sink and then as a confident woman, colour for goodness sake... his talk on colours and why would have opened up the meaning he was striving for. The live stuff would have worked beautifully as a backdrop to all those wonderful life observations.

Those, of course, are just my thoughts on it. Those lyrics and the music deserve more than what they had to illustrate them.

the songs means exactly what I figured it did, but nice to see Dave give a cool interview where he doesnt seem to be rambling into the Ozone... he has always been very witty, smart guy. but like most of what we are seeing lately, he seems more honest rather than forced.
