The Rumor...
There is a rumor that VH representatives have been busy booking rehearsal space and hotel rooms for the band and their crew for next week in NYC. Who knows what this might mean. Interesting info though from obviously a trusted source.
Ok enjoy!!!

Thanks to VA Beach Fan over at the Army we were able to get in with Dave's people. So it was very cool of him to do that for us.

Good stuff Brett, VA & of course the man himself...Dave for letting us get a glimpse inside, and channeling his inner morning DJ!!! I wish there was a way to share it with my friends on Facebook.
P.S. My first car was an old crappy mid 70's mustang that was a lot like Ed's Volvo...the only good part of that car was the hood scoop which I had given a Frankie paint job...later pulled out the 4 banger and shoe horned a V8 into her

I work in the city too. Would love to see them rehearse, or even see a surprise club gig. One can dream...
They should be getting along at their ages...Based on this and the quotes from the Roxy employees, seems they are genuinely having fun and getting along. That whole "they're forcing it, going thru the motions" argument from many is bs.
Pretty cool, nice get Brett.
My appetite is beginning to get whet.

Holy shit am I loving this right now! It's been kind of a shitty year personally, and this has really brightened the past few days. You all realize what's going on here, right? The classic slow reveal to build anticipation! And damn if it isn't working! Just tidbits and teasers here and there, in black-and-white no less, before the full technicolor onslaught of the new video and single!! Whoever is now handling VH's promo machine is doing a masterful job. Is that too enthusiastic? I don't care!! Pour me another drink, it's New Year's weekend!!:headbang:

I couldn't agree more! I feel like I am 15 and not the actual 41 that I am! I always thought that the Van Halens and Dave had known each other for so long that is really developed in to a family type relationship. When you realize that they were all teenagers (I believe) when they first met it's mind boggling to think of their shared history together.

Each morning I wake to something new from Van Halen, maybe just an image or a sample vid, but in any case something new ... And one day I will wake new song and then a new record ... how freakin cool is that .... I love the way they are going about the release of these images and vid's ... Through fan sites that have been through it all to get to where they are today, rewarded ... Very very cool of Van Halen to do and me thinks its all Dave's doing ....

This along with the 2 podcasts seems so un-Van Halen like. Do you think this is the new label coming with fresh ideas or has the latest incarnation of VH doing things a little bit differently after all?

I always knew they'd come back and make things right with the world again.......felt it in my core.
I've waited longer then I wanted to, but I never gave up on them.
Clips like this remind me of why they were instantly my favorite band from the first note I heard, even when they don't do the things other bands do for their fans.
If they did this stuff all the time, it would really make these things a lot less important and special to me...I'm kind of glad they don't.
I feel like I'm gonna burst into tears, hearing Ed sound that good, and sober... considering he was #1 in the Death Pool a few years ago.
What a great time to be alive.....
Wow, I can't believe they are actually doing some cool things. Hopefully, this will be a good year to be a VH fan.

There is such a positive vibe this time around. It seemed like during the 07/08 tour we were all on pins and needles hoping things wouldn't fall apart. I think these videos have a lot to do with that. Hopefully they keep em coming.

Absolutely. In '07, everyone assumed it would fall apart and it nearly did before Ed fixed himself up for the umpteenth time in early 2008. Ed was just so goddamn unpredictable for those dark years in 2002 to 2007 - who knew when he was going to fall off the rails again. Plus, personally, I still had a bad taste in my mouth from the RRHofF screwup, which was a chance for the band to really shine. Add to that the fact that there was NO new music. While it was clearly a cash grab tour, I think the band also looked at it as a dry run to see if they could handle each other before investing the energy into a new album. They didn't do any press. No interviews or meet and greets. It was bare bones touring combined with complete uncertainty . . . We all assumed they were as cold to each other off stage as Sam and Ed were in 2004. It's amazing how a couple of clips of the guys bullshitting can totally change those perceptions. Look! They really do like each other! That said, I think their history together as young men is a pretty strong bond that they might finally be embracing. Sure, maybe it's all for the cameras, but it sure is nice to hear. They actually sound real again. And doing it exclusively for the handful of online communities that have supported them through a lot of lean years deserves serious credit. I hope there's more, because it sure makes me smile. The first steps towards making some (not all) of their wrongs right. Good times.

Heard you missed us, we're back!
And by this I mean all of us fans are back to the day when we waited for each new release, new videos, interview from Ed in Guitar World etc, getting tickets to the new tour, wearing the T-shirt...yada yada yada!
In '07 Eddie was still using (allegedly)... This is probably the first time in years (if ever) that he approached a project sober and creative. A sober Ed looks like a very productive Ed. Best wishes EVH.
This is seriously awesome. It's great that Dave, VH, the record company, or whoever to give shoutouts like this to those of us who are strangely dedicated enough to have thousands of posts covering a band that hasn't put out an album in 15 years. Keep 'em coming!
Love the vibe in these videos. Definitely not just a marriage of convenience or a hired hand or anything like that. Maybe Dave was telling the truth when he said it was a band like it never was before? Either way, I don't care as long as the music is awesome, but this stuff can't help but put a smile on your face.
Thanks Brett, VA, Dave and the rest of the band!!

Okay, I can't lie, that was really friggin' cool.
It's nice to hear them getting along. I know it's hard to tell from two minute-long video clips, but it's still really cool to see this.
Ed sounds spectacular. Best I've heard him sound in a long time, and he actually made me laugh for the first time in quite some time.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe this will be all it's cracked up to be. We shall see.
This is what we fans want! Finally someone seems to get it (besides Fender, of course!).
Thank you to whomever made this possible that the band is talking to its fans.
Maybe this really is a fresh start over with real interviews and not only gear pimping!
I love it! Bring it on!!!!! :bounce:

You gotta love Al's political/bullshit way of answering the "wet t-shirt" contest question and Dave callin' him out on it, ha haaaaa! It's like one of them old, classic VH interviews but now them as 50-some-year-old men...well, it is, and they're still fuckin' hilarious.

That would shock me.
Most bands, VH included, usually start with the smaller markets so they can tweek the show, work out the bugs, and get some good mojo rolling before they hit a major market city. I've alway thought it was the smartest way to go, as well.
It would suck to open at MSG and have sound issues or something...

It's amazing how starved we are for any communication and/or marketing from the band. We'll take anything at this point. But even so, I like what they've done so far, VH's bad history or not with its fans.
If you take a step back for a minute..They have not had a full album in 13 years. Why wouldn't they use more modern methods of getting the word out. A lot has changed since 1998. I think some people really believed the band would just post an announcement on their site about an album and a tour and that's it. You have to give the band, their managment, and the label some credit. No one/band is that incapable of promoting a new album/tour.
It seems the usual Debbie Downers have gone mute or are in shock. Except for one maybe...
It's nice to see everyone so united together for once in their excitement about all things Van Halen!
Thank you Brett for all you have done to make this site such an exclusive part of VH's promotion!

Wow, I can't believe they are actually doing some cool things. Hopefully, this will be a good year to be a VH fan.
You ain't kidding. :)
For me, being a fan of both camps, this really feels like the 5150 - EAS days only flipped. Hell, it's so similar that Sammy is playing with Vai's teacher. Judging from interviews, there's definately a competition on Sammy's side, I don't know if Ed cares or not (probably not) but the fans win in the end because it pushes them to try and out-do the other. I love it. Keep crankin out the product!
Only blemish is Mike not being involved in the Van Halen comeback, but it is what it is. Mike is happy, VH seems happy so what the fuck ya know, let's put that aside and make some music :headbang:

I agree. If they open in North Carolina again, I will be there. Btw- I would recommend to anyone that they come from afar to see VH play at the Garden
But why would they be rehearsing in NYC? The only explaination I can think of is that they will play the "local" shows like Letterman, even the Today Show, and maybe just maybe have a secret or exclusive club/warm up gig somewhere in the city... There are so many possibilities of what they can do in NYC (U2's past promotions come to mind), but the winter would be a huge detriment.

Yep and contrary to what some have said, I don't think this sounds forced at all. 3 men in their late 50's reminiscing about things that happened when they were in the late teens and early 20's. Raldo, don't look at it that way. I'm just gonna enjoy moment for now. Think about it. They've never really done anything like this officially. It sounds like the commentary type stuff you'd hear on say the Star Wars Blu Ray remastered DVD or something. For the first time, classic Van Halen (minus Mikey of course) is going to take advantage of all the wonderful 21st century technologies that are available. I can see them releasing DVD of archive footage and this audio is type of stuff that will accompany it. Hoping. :D

I feel the same way...
It's unfortunate Mike won't EVER be a part of a full reunion with Dave, Ed and Alex. Some of us were fortunate to see the original band during it's peak and those memories will live on forever. I was hoping for at least one last full reunion with the original members before they moved on to something new, like they're preparing for us now. Especially at their age. But like you said, Mike seems happy and the guys in the NEW VH seem happy.
So, game on...
I can't wait for the new material and tour! Should be fun! :thumb:

I noticed that his voice seemed almost back to normal in the quick clip from the EVH booth at NAMM in January 2011. That's great because there was no way he was singing any backup vocals with that low, gravelly voice he had the prior year.
Ed's voice is flooring me right now.
He sounds almost like he did pre-cancer.

Well, that was quick. Good sign, too. I hope they reach out to you more, Brett. You deserve that kind of treatment.
HH<----Text me your number SNIC, I need it again, plus I have some VH info for you, here is a hint, Album and Tour. Can't say more than that! :sssh:--------------
Done!
Well another cool tidbit that builds on the New York thing. VHND just said a huge sign for the new album is going to be in Times Square tonight.
A New Years Eve performance would be sweet!

I said the same thing several quotes back. It has to be relevant to New Year's Eve in some way.
Maybe they filmed a video that will be aired, or they were practicing for a live New Year's performance.

I'm officialy impresed, blown away, and exited!!!
Congrats Brett you deserve it.
Comments:
1. VH in NY: My bet is rehearsal for the tour, with luck a Letterman performance on the 10th
2. Eddies voice does sound way better, and he sounds sober and coherent, good good!
3. My PC crashed and I missed the closing of the now famous Tour Especulation thread, sad to see it go, but for great reasons :)
Good Times! Good Times! Welcome 2012!!! :)

Ed does sound A LOT better, it's nice to hear Al..........well, it's just nice to hear Al speak at all!
But most impressive to me is Dave, he's actually speaking normal and telling great old stories from the past and not with the constant bozey bozy bop schtick and cheesy one liners that only make sense to him :drunk:. I really like this Dave.
Maybe that's why they seem to be getting along?
Back in 1996 that appeared to be a big annoyance of Ed and Al after the MTV thing, maybe it was time for Dave to drop the nonsense and see that the band is the most important thing?
I'm just speculating off of 3 minute audio clips of course, so who the hell knows what's going on there lol.
New album....new album...........NEW ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce:

I'm always up for new Van Halen music :headbang:
I'll still pass on the tour, but that's not just cuz of Mike's absence, I pass on most tours from any band these days. But I won't say NEVER, so we'll see.
Mick was right....what a drag it is getting old LOL
I am just blown away by what has transpired over the past few days.
VH has been using social media for PR. We've complained about that for YEARS that they never embraced it. Now, they have.
It's a great time to be a Van Halen fan!!!

Imagine my shagrin the other day. While I was typing my rant, they were doing EXACTLY what I was bitching they WEREN'T doing. Communicating with us.
In my defense, I had no idea they were doing that as I typed it out. I won't retract anything I said. I won't apologize for bitching. It's how I was feeling at that very moment, as the years of frustration had finally peaked. I will apologize for the timing.
I am excited about hearing the new stuff. Hopefully my PD get's the new stuff this week and let's me hear it. As bummed as I am about, Mike not being involved, if I hear any new stuff, I will give a FULL report. Fair, unbiased and down the middle.
Grand Central Station? :)
That... would be a brilliant bit of marketing, as well as tying in to what we've seen of the "cover art" theme. A VH Flash Mob in Grand Central... a thought that would have been completely unthinkable until a week ago.
So. F'in. Excited. :bounce:

The one good thing about life is that sometimes it brings "GOOD" unexpected surprises...For all of us who have been fans for years, we finally have something to be happy about. Happy New Year everyone! REJOICE! It will soon be 2012 and Van Halen will be back playing BRAND NEW MUSIC, in our cars, in our homes and in our iPods!...Who would've thought...There is a GOD!

To this day... I still don't know how people actually WANT to pass on VH LIVE... (my heart rate must go up at least 25% whenever those house lights go down and the thunder kicks in)
This video I think is the ultimate example of such...

Here's an update about tonight...
TELEVISED VAN HALEN GRAPHIC: Keep in mind the countdown shows are only live on the east coast. The Van Halen graphic will be televised on the ABC electronic billboard between 9 and 10pm and the Clear Channel electronic billboard between 10 and 11 pm. This would be east coast times for a show like Dick Clark's even though they just re-air it on the west coast 3 hours later. CNN does a show that is live across the nation so then it would be 9 to 11pm east coast and 6 to 8pm west coast.
ALBUM COVER HINT: Regarding the train graphic below, we asked the VH camp if that image was the album cover. They said it is indeed "based on" the album cover. Only 5 1/2 weeks until the album's in our hands!!

The Rumor...
There is a rumor that VH representatives have been busy booking rehearsal space and hotel rooms for the band and their crew for next week in NYC. Who knows what this might mean. Interesting info though from obviously a trusted source.
Ok enjoy!!![/Q
Great to hear them in good spirit- I hope they arent relying on Ed for the backing vocals. You hear the years of smoking in his voice

Congrats to VHLinks for getting these!! Love them. God, I haven't been this excited for an album since I was in my twenties.
Absolutely, I thought DLR's radio show was really good, and he was a great interviewer.
New year's eve 1983, we rode our sleds a short trip across the Milwaukee river to Shelly's house to watch the unveiling of "1984" - the "Jump" video. Fun times. Lookin' forward to this new stuff!

I was made fun of last night at a New Years Eve party cause I got all excited seeing the VH Billboard. My friends were like "what you talking 'bout Willis?
Somebody should politely ban Carlos Santana from playing guitar again. Yes it was great you played at Woodstock but you are responsible for making Rob Thomas a household name and have just jammed in public with Justin Bieber while disgracing a classic Beatles song. You also recorded a really shitty version of Dance The Night Away which is hard to do since it's a perfect blend of pop and rock.
Christy Canyon was very nice in the day. I believe Ron Jeremy said she was his favorite porn star screw. She did have a big thicket of fur though but that was the old school way.
