IF THAT WAS THE BEST CONCERT YOU HAVE EVER SEEN YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY NEVER SEEN VAN HALEN BEFORE THAT SHOW. THE SHOW WAS FUN! EDWARD, WELL, EDWARD WAS BORDERLINE BRUTAL. I SAW THE BAND THREE TIMES ON THIS TOUR. TORONTO WAS A GOOD SHOW, OTHER THAN EDDIE FUCKING UP A LOT OF THE SONGS, BUT I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THE BAND SO OVERALL I COULD NOT COMPLAIN. THE SECOND SHOW I SAW WAS IN VEGAS AND THAT WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST FUCKING VAN HALEN CONCERT I HAVE EVER SEEN. EDDIE WAS EDDIE, THE BAND WAS FUCKING AWESOME! I WALKED OUT AND SAID TO MYSELF, THE BOYS ARE BACK! THE THIRD AND FINAL SHOW WAS IN HAMILTON AND THAT NIGHT WAS POSSIBLY THE MOST DEPRESSING NIGHT OF MY LIFE. EDDIE WAS A FUCKING DISASTER! HE BUTCHERED PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING HE PLAYED. THE REST OF THE BAND LOOKED LIKE THEY WOULD RATHER BE SOMEWHERE ELSE. IT WAS TERRIBLE! IF I HADN'T SEEN THEM IN VEGAS I WOULD SAY LIKE THE REST OF THE GUYS WHO ATTENDED THE SHOW WITH ME THAT VAN HALEN WAS FINISHED, BUT I WAS IN VEGAS!!!!! FOR FUCK SAKES ED I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ONE DAY THAT YOU WHERE FOUND DEAD IS SOME HOTEL ROOM. WHEN ED IS SOBER, VAN HALEN IS EASILY THE BEST FUCKING BAND IN THE WORLD. WHEN ED IS FUCKED, WELL I'D RATHER NEVER SEE THEM PLAY AGAIN IF IT MEANS FANS WILL HAVE TO WATCH WHAT I SAW IN HAMILTON. WHAT I SAW IN HAMILTON WAS NOT VAN HALEN, NOT THE VAN HALEN I GREW UP TO. WATCH L.W.A.N. THAT WAS A FUCKING BAND! THEY PLAYED DAVE TUNES, SAMMY TUNES, COVER TUNES, IT DIDN'T MATTER WHO WROTE THE FUCKING SONGS, NO EGOS JUST MUSIC! I WISH THE WHOLE BAND WOULD WATCH THAT VIDEO AGAIN AND SEE WHAT JUST WHAT A FUCKING INCREDIBLE BAND THEY WERE AND IN VEGAS THEY PROVED THEY STILL COULD BE! I HOPE ED CLEANS UP FOR HIS WON SAKE! I'M OUT!

Actually that was the first time I saw VH and for a 15 year old getting to see a band that was around in 1978, it was was AWESOME!!! Compared to some of the other shows on this tour Toronto was one of the best. Toronto was the first sold out show on the tour. I agree Hamilton was a let down. But it was clear to see that the band was tired and Ed was.. well Ed was Ed.

In Toronto I have never seen the band, with Sammy, seem so excited and happy to be out and touring. They looked exactly like they did during the 5150 tour(after watching LWAN. I was not born in 1986), I mean "looking" as in happy they were together.

I also do not want to hear that Ed is dead in a hotel room. I actually agree with you totally on that aspect. Ed has to clean up. I mean it's his life and he can do what he wants but I'm just worried for him.

The one thing you did say that was right though was that "It was FUN" That's all I want. I don't care how bad Eddie played (although Ed's playing was fairly fresh and good being that it was the beginning of the tour". IF the band seems like their enjoying what their doing and they provide me with a night to remember which they did... then I'm still gonna buy tickets and their ain't a damn thing anybody is gonna say to make me think other wise. they might not have been as polished as they were in 1998 or 1995 or 1993, or 1989, or 1986, or 1984, but VH ROCKED TORONTO IN 2004!!! and, I'm sorry but if you don't see it like that then I guess if they reunite again you won't have to buy tickets.

That's my opinion. Let me just say that I understand how other VH fans who have seen the band on past tours might say that Ed sucked this tour but for a guy who saw them for the first time in T.O. , I didn't see one person in the ACC after that concert that seemed dissapointed.

tight? you were at the ACC show? if there is one word that did not describe them on this tour it was tight. I've seen them about a dozen times, and this was one of only 2 poor performances (compared to Hamilton this was a fucking classic though)

Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but to say that Toronto was one of only 2 poor performances is crazy. Sure Ed might not have been playing as well as he did in 1995 or 1998 but they were still great in Toronto. That was the first official sold out show on the tour. and overall the band seemed happy to be back together. that's all i could ask for.

To each his own I guess Bedrockboy but I had a blast at the show and the reaction of the crowd that night certainly differs from your opinion. I guess the majority rules in this case.

At that point, his patch chord had got caught up in something and he yanked it out. That would be the PAUSE in the Runaround intro. There were no mistakes, just a pause.

I was there, it was the best concert I have seen in my life! Eddie was awesome that night, the whole band was. EVH was the star of the show though.

I loved the fact that they opened with Jump, everyone in the place went wild!:thumb: I thought Alex's drum solo could have been better, there wasn't much to it compared to his drum solo on the Balance tour. He didn't do half as much stuff as he could have. Eddie's solo was wicked though, I also really enjoyed Sammy's acoustic solo, it was a nice break in the show, it was especially great hearing A Deeper Kind Of Love. Why Can't This Be Love was the highlight for me, it was cool when they had the helicoper on the background screen for the beginning of it.

I bought 3 VH t-shirts and a VH wallet from the show too.

I'll never forget the moment when all the house lights went out and Eddie just started shredding with the lights out while everybody was going ape-shit. The only thing I could see from the stage was the cherry on Eddie's ciggarette and it was the coolest thing in the world just knowing it was him.

When they opened with Jump and all house lights came on the crowd and the band for the first 15 seconds of the song, I don't think I've heard a louder reaction for anything.

The highlights for me were definatly Jump, Runaround, Unchained, It's About Time, Seventh Seal, Best of Both Worlds, Why Can't The be Love, and When It's Love. The whole show was great, but being that close to them and getting my ears blown off to the best band in the land was just something else.

That whole day was just magical. For me, it started on patio's in downtown Toronto around noon with every bar in the city blasting the Best Of CD and just about every car going towrds the ACC doing the same. It was a hot summer day and lots of Van Halen. What more could you ask for? :)

Of course I then partied my ass off after the show at a couple of places. I was just way to wired to go back to the hotel.

Toronto definately was in the Top 10 (maybe 5) Best shows on that tour. I mean being in the first row it's easy for me to say it was a great show but after watching the video of it it hit me... VH was actually playing right in front of my eyes. A band that was not around for 9 years coming back and me being the one in front row is mind boggeling. There will not be another concert that I attend in my life that is better than that one. My friends and my parents keep telling me... You don't know how lucky you were.

And when it comes to the day that (god forbid) VH calls it quits then we will know how lucky we are. Everybody who complains and whines about how bad they were on this tour and w/e should realize that it doesn't matter. Just be fortunate that you got to see them when you did and appreciate the fact that you got to see the Mighty Van Halen live.
We all have different opinions but to say that VH sucked in Toronto is STUPID! So they played better at different shows and some places they played worse, agreed Ed played "not up to par" in Hamilton. But when I was in the crowd I wasn't standing there going, "This sucks, Eddie can't play, I wan't my money back" I was rockin just like everybody else. And for some of the people in Toronto who said that it was terrible I guess I didn't see you cause whenever I turned around and I looked at the crowd almost every single person was singing and jumping.

Everybody has a right to their opinion and I respect that but please:

STOP COMPLAINING!!! It's Van Halen not brain surgery. Their allowed to make mistakes!

It doesn't matter? What the fuck does that mean? So it's ok if they play like shit? It's ok if they charge you top dollar for a bottom of the barrel performance? That's just ridiculous. Why is it ok to boo a sports team when stink it up but when Halen stinks we have to be happy with "the fact that you got to see the Mighty Van Halen live". That's fucking insance!!!
They didn't play like "the Mighty Van Halen" when I saw them in TO & Hamilton and I'm not gonna be happy with a half assed performance. I expect more for the $101.72 price tag that's on my ticket.

EVH, we're not talking about the occasional missed note. We're talking about shows (like Hamilton) where you wouldn't know what song Eddie was playing half the time. I can tolerate mistakes, mistakes are part of the show (if there are no musical mistakes, they likely ain't playing). But am I asking too much for a sober band that appears to care about their performance? I don't think so.

Give me an example of when the band played like "SHIT" in Toronto. What song? Like I said, sure there were mistakes, but not during one song did they play like shit.
And I pretty much knew what song Eddie was playing during Hamilton during the whole show. But maybe I had a better seat than you and the sound wasn't to good where you were sitting.
I do agree with the fact that for the money that was shelled out for the tickets Ed could have at least been fairly sober. But I'm not their manager and I'm not gonna tell him what to do.

I would never boo my favourite sports team even if they did screw up really bad. That's why they are my FAVOURITE TEAM. There's always bad nights and good nights. And Hamilton was an off night, still a fun show, but off night. Toronto was a Great NIGHT!!! The energy was up, the band was having fun, Eddie was sober. I would defend my favourite team if anybody came around bitching about what they felt was a poor and terrible display.

bedrockboy didn't like Toronto and couldn't stand Hamilton. Case closed. Done. Finished. Point Made. Undertsood. Well documented.

Now, I don't know about the other people on here, but, I can speak for myself when I say that I'd like to discuss this show without having to worry about starting up a good point or memory with somebody else who enjoyed the show besides myself.

EvH_316_5150, Yankee Rose and LittleGuitars99 have actually thrown in some positve feedback about this that I haven't even got the chance to give my opinions on and be able to relate to what they're saying. I am fully aware that all opinions are welcome, but holy fuckin' hell this is getting nuts. EVH,

Have you ever seen Halen before this tour? Can you honestly say that this Toronto show could possibly compare musically to any other show in Toronto that they've ever had (I've this them all and it was easily the most poorly played show). I'm not saying I didn't have fun at the TO show, it was sloppy but fun. I think I've made that point enough times.

I didn't boo Halen in Hamilton but I was just really disappointed at the quality of the performance and I don't think I should be pissed on for being critical of a bad performance and even you admitted that "for the money that was shelled out for the tickets Ed could I have at least been fairly sober". So I don't think I'm being unfair.

And don't give me this "the sound was good from my seats at not yours" I was about 30 feet from the band. It wasn't the sound qualitiy, it was the playing. Dont you think you should expect more than to "pretty much know" what song Eddie was playing? Man, maybe my expectations are higher because I've seen them kick ass so many times. But don't hammer me for being honest.

LMAO.. I dunno, man!

I'm just glad this thread wasn't closed. If it was to be closed, damn, all Canada has left is the Montreal thread. And I think only StevieD, hatchetforce and myself attended that one. With only the three of us, that would be a real Mind Dinner with Entree! :D

Anyway,

here are some more pics that I submitted to redrocker.com that my buddy took.

I know EvH_316_5150 will appreciate seeing these. You can see the damn hat a mile away! :D

Sure you can see that hat..but who is that absolutely stunning guy to his left? In the blue t-shirt. :D Looks like Jetguy but I could be wrong.

Me likeyed the show in Toronto. Hamilton too.

Was it me, or was it hotter than HELL on July 3, 2004?? It was a long walk to the ACC from where I was, too. :D

Someone mentioned it was hot but I kept my core temperature pretty low by inserting 11 icy cold Coronas ! :drunk: I don't remember the walk to the ACC.

See, that's where I think I went wrong. I shot down a whole pile of Long Island Iced Tea's at this pub downtown and MAN did I heat up afterwards! The walk to the ACC was like a walking through an oven with about 10,000 baking shrimp with Van Halen t-shirts on and I was on the top rung!

Yoko! I remember hearing about her on the old boards. :)

I think it's cool that a lot of you brought the brides to the show. There is NOTHING cooler than having a wife/girlfriend that appreciates Van Halen and a friendly little booze-fest get together. :thumb:

I was fortunate enough to meet hatchetforce and his lovely lady in Montreal. Besides being amazing people, quite possibly the coolest couple I know just for being front row at a rock show. I just don't see that too often anymore in my neck of the woods.

It was smoking hot that day, Casey's was packed with the Van Halen just a cranking on the patio, I ran into a my buddy Mark (coolest Edddie shoes on the planet) inside, everyone was in full Bocefus mode that day, great time.

Bros, I was just a couple of feet from you in another packed bar/resto/patio where they were blasting the Best Of CD. I can't recall the name of it (I'm not from Toronto) but I'm pretty sure they had some radio thing going on there, too. A lot of long haired dudes, hot women and a lot of booze! lol

Maybe it was Casey's, who knows. Did it take you about 30 minutes to get a drink at the bar? :D

It was more or less on the corner the radio station's van was parked outside, patio had 97.7 HTZ FM on it, had the Best Of on out there, patio was jammed The DJ from the station is there sports guy Joe Cahill, he has long hair, huge VH freak, loves Sammy.

Wolfgang Slinger

Oh yeah, everywhere I went it was jammed. I finally wound up at this place where I didn't care anymore and just settled beside a bar to kill some time and listen to some VH jams.

But what you're describing sounds very familiar and sounds about right to where I was. Damn, why I wasn't part of these boards before that show I'll never know. :brickwall

there seems to be a serious double standard on this site. bedrock can get slammed by everyone because he says the band was not up to snuff on this tour (by the way he is right), people call him all kinds of names and he gets banned for firing back. this my friends is bullshit. any fan who has followed this band should be able to honestly say that the band was far better live on previous tours. now, i was as happy as anyone that i got to see them live again, and obviously the yeras of inactivity will show, so what is the problem. someone says they were better before and everyone tees off on the guy! get serious! brett if you are going to ban bedrockboy, you should be banning everyone who called him names too, if not this site is going to be a joke!!!!!

go ahead everyone, i guess you can rip in to me know, don't worry give me all you got because brett will cover you!

Brett
05.26.05, 09:43 PM
Yep and the personal BS he was getting into people with was unacceptable. That's the end of it. Move on.

It has nothing to do with what he thinks about the band. Plenty of people post on this site who didn't like the shows, hate Sam, etc.

And why is it that I notice that every thread you have posted in has been closed, and you oddly only post in the same threads as bedrockboy, and to add to that your IP's almost match exactly? Just leave it alone.

Not to get sentimental etc. but we got so lucky last year. The weather in March/April/May/June had been crappy. Not only did we get the Van Halen concert on a Saturday night, it was a Saturday night on the Canada Day long weekend. And to top it off it was smoking hot without a cloud in the sky! I am glad the concert was indoors because of lighting etc. but I would not have complained one bit if this show had been down on the water at the amphitheatre. That would have been a perfect summer concert! :thumb: So far this year all I have is Jimmy Buffett on the schedule at said amphitheatre on June 13. Hopefully it is a nice day.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Ed wasn't hammered, he was in a better state that night then Hamilton. Sammy was the man that night, that was the 3rd show in 3 nights, and his voice was bang on, he is a freak of nature.

Each time I watch that show or I listen to it. I personally feel that Sammy felt like he wanted that night to be special. Like I know every show is something special to each person there but I have watched their first concert in Greensboro and Sammy only said "Greensboro" or "North Carolina" maybe 4 times in the whole show. In Toronto it seemed like Sammy and the boys knew where they were and that they wanted to give us something to remember. Maybe it was because they remember the PPV special from 1995 and they have always liked Toronto. I don't know I just felt like that night was one of the best shows on that tour and everybody there got their money's worth.

I mean they came out in Leaf jerseys. How freakin' cool is that. Seeing Eddie and Mike in the White and Blue. Now thinkin about it I could have probably gotten Sammy to wear mine except the name on the back would have been wrong. Oh well, I'll wait for the next tour.

Ha! Yeah, I remember that and I remember Sammy starting to run towards Ed when he fell thinking he was really hurt. Ed got right back up and did a whole pile of jumps and Sam just saying "Don't hurt yourself!" lol

That was pretty funny.

what's funny is that in a bottleg of a concert in Charlotte in 1984 Roth says the exact same thing at pretty much the exact same point in Jump. He says, " Eddie don't hurt yourself". Just a little tidbit of info.

Eddie's always going nuts when they're playing Jump. I love it when he goes ape shit. I noticed him do it a lot on Jump, Best of Both Worlds, Ain't Talkin' Bout Love and Panama on the last tour. :)

Why, yes, Sir, I am!

I tried to get things going in our "Toronto?" thread with that. Jets wasn't planning on going but he mentioned something about another group meeting. On the old boards, I remember all those guys including Hatch saying they might be making a trip to see the Crue but that was on their first leg. I don't see it being a bad idea seeing them in the dead of summer at the 'theatre. :thumb:

I got some pencil-neck geek who gave me mine. Mind you, I took a tour of the bowels of the building and came back in through the subway entrance by the time they were hanging out those buttons.

It's amazing how we remember these things, huh? I guess I'm just trying to come up with anything to do with the show that's positive to prevent another pissfest. Hell, I'll talk about how fresh the mustard was that was served with the hotdogs that night just to keep this thread oepn and rollin'.

She new my brother, I guess Coke had some charity Golf tournament and she was on the same team as him, so when we were walking by the Q107 van, she pointed and came out and talked to us for a while. She has a few pics of her and Mike Anthony, not sure where they were from, but she did say she has met the band before. No hotdogs that day, I had a Clubhouse and a few Cokes at Casey's.
