........tells Brazilian Audience "God Bless America And F*** You All" After "Star Spangled Banner" Is Booed

A small riot broke out during guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen's headlining show in Porto Alegre, Brazil on Tuesday, October 2nd after the guitarist performed his rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner." "Midway through
the set, Yngwie finished his guitar solo spot with the 'Star Spangled Banner,'" says touring keyboardist Derek Sherinian (formerly of prog-rock titans Dream Theater). "The crowd of about 1,500 people
started immediately booing very loudly, and throwing stuff on stage."
The crowd's behavior forced the bandmembers to storm off the stage, leaving their equipment susceptible to damage as a result of the objects being thrown by the angry audience.
"After Yngwie's solo we had about 5 more songs to play," continues Sherinian. "All of my spirit was gone. I finished the set disgusted, and without looking at the crowd for the rest of the show. After the final
song, the band went to the dressing room. I told Yngwie I refuse to go out for the encore under any circumstances, 'F.CK THESE PEOPLE.' Yngwie went back on stage by himself and played the 'Star Spangled Banner'
again to a choir of loud boos. He then said on the microphone, 'God Bless America and F*** YOU ALL' and walked off stage. The crowd went into a riot and started throwing s*** on stage. We immediately were
rushed back to our hotel. I have no idea
of the status of our gear." "I want to thank Yngwie for taking my back, and for standing up for the USA." "I am currently the only American in Yngwie Malmsteen's touring band. What happened at last night's gig in Porte Allegre, Brazil was shocking. To see the Anti-American rallies on CNN is bad enough, but to be in the middle of one is scary beyond words. To the people in Porte Allegre, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I don't give a f**k if I ever play your peasant infested third world city again. God bless America."

A friend of mine sent this to me, I've looked around for other stories relating to this but I didn't have any luck.

If it's true, good for Yngwie for standing up for the USA.

Just to clear things up here, I'm not a Yngwie fan. I always thought his music blew.

I'm not really a big Yngwie fan either, but that took balls. He didn't just tell them to F--- off and run away. He went back onstage, played the star spangled banner, and then told them. He's gone up a few notches with me.

A nice move on Wengie's part. The downside is that, since then, Derek Sherinian has issued a public apology to the Brazilians already. What a maroon. smilies/rolleyes.gif I guess he didn't want to lose any Dream Theater sales there.

But hey, GOOD FOR YNGWIE!!!!!!

Brazilians in general are cool people, but kudos to Yngwie for sticking it to this particular crowd. smilies/wink.gif

Another thing that took guts was the fact that he said this to one of his biggest audiences. Yngwie's records don't sell well here in the US but are normally huge in Japan and Brazil etc. I wish there was a video of this. Although it's a serious matter in one aspect (the tragedy) I still would get a laugh watching Yngwie get up at a show telling HIS audience who payed to see HIM "Fuck you All." Hahaha

I've always thought Yngwie was a bit of a headcase...

But his head was screwed on just tight enough when it counted. smilies/wink.gif

Good for him.

Fuck those that booed. Every last one of them.

Derek isn't in Dream Theater anymore, so his actions wouldn't have any relation to their sales
