Why is it that they only selected two different airlines for their attack?

Did anybody notice that those are the only airlines who utilize the name of our country in them? (i.e. United State of America, and United Airlines and American Airlines).

Just thought it was kind of interesting. There HAD to be other airlines that flew transcontinental fights out of those airports. In fact I KNOW there are cuz I've flown some of them. Why not Delta or Northwest or something else? Why just those two airlines? smilies/confused.gif

Well, who's to say it was only two? Remember, as soon as the gov't figured out what was going on, they grounded ALL flights immediately. There could have been any number of other planes in their plan that either never made it into the air or landed too quickly for the hijackers to make their move.

There's a report in NY that there was a scuffle with 3 passengers (Arab descent) who, upon hearing a flight was cancelled, went apeshit. Security was called, but the trio disappeared before security arrived. I am not sure which airline that was.

Hell, they could have planned a hundred such missions that were halted when all flights were grounded. We'll likely never know.

Also, along the lines of "did anybody notice this"-...the fact that bin ladin was extradited from Saudi in 1993 or 94' right? By that time, Saddam was pretty sick of our patrols over Iraq with southern watch too. You think they hooked up? I do. Also add to the fact that these fuckers have been in the states now for 5-6 years learning to fly etc. That puts them here close to 94'. Triangle of possibility there.

Seenbad, that was reported on the news, but it was a false report. That's the first thing that I heard on the news this morning.

Actually, I'm immensely relieved that it was false.

I would bet on the fact that they've been plotting this ever since the first attempt to topple the twin towers failed. The men responsible for setting the bombs with that attack admitted to watching from Jersey, hoping to see them fall. I'd be willing to bet that these groups went as far as consulting structural engineers to see what it would take to topple those buildings.

Yeah, that did kind of cross my mind on Tuesday. Weren't all the flights they chose among the very first flights out of those airports. Of course there is symbolism involved in these attacks, but as you say a huge amount of planning has gone into this. I expect those flights were really chosen for logistical reasons (less likely to be delayed, carfrying large amount of fuel, time of departure etc)

Latest rumor I caught on TV suggests that the hijackers have been spending a LOT of time flying, looking for specific pilots that would be most likely to relinquish control of their planes without much struggle. This is nothing more than hearsay, of course, but I found it interesting.

Also, there are reports that the FBI had learned of 2 other flights that were slated for hijacking that were either grounded too early or before they took off, most likely slated to handle the Washington targets that were not covered by the planes that we know of. In theory, if we assume the Pentagon was the intended target of the plane that hit it, then the White House and the Capitol building would have been hit by the 2 that never got hijacked.
