Jerel put together some thoughts and things he has heard that are pretty good in summary. Nice to have a compilation sometimes. Good stuff Jerel, thanks.

Van Halen Off The Record
I'm sure you've heard all the rumors flying around the Internet right now regarding the boys in our beloved Van Halen. David Coverdale is writing songs with Eddie, Alex and Billy Sheehan. Sebastian Bach turned down an audition with the boys. Gary left because he got tired of doing Eddie's laundry, etc etc. It seems like everyone knows someone that just had lunch with Michael at Spago. I'm going to add to that rumor mill, and chime in with my own two cents regarding the Reunion. Here are the facts, as told to me by an employee of Warner Brothers/Elektra/Atlantic Entertainment. (WEA)

Warner Brothers gave Van Halen an ultimatum. They were given two choices, reconvene with Dave or Sammy or find another label.
As everybody knows by now, Dave IS the man with Van Halen again.
Sammy WAS approached about the reunion but declined.
The original plan was to release "something" by Van Halen with Dave at Christmas time. However, the label felt that it might get lost in the 4th quarter lull that the business goes into every year. Anyone that works for the labels or retail knows that everybody takes their vacation then. WEA wanted to make sure that something this big got the proper exploitation. What the "something" was that WEA was going to release was not specified. Live tracks perhaps? A single with full CD to follow? (Ala Diver Down) Who knows?
When the reunion is officially announced it will be advertised as Van Halen with David Lee Roth.
The largest stumbling block the reunion faces right now is money. Van Halen and David are not even close to agreeing on a dollar amount that they both feel is fair compensation for David's participation. Keep in mind; they are also going through legal trials and tribulations with Ray Danniels as well. Surely he's expecting a piece of what is almost assured of being the Tour To End All Tours.

While a stadium tour in late summer is a possibility, an arena tour in the fall is more likely.

NY Sources report, "VH is gonna have the title song in the new Ivan Reitman film, and the director of another new movie wants to have NEW VH material for his soundtrack". These things are being worked on, nothing is definite yet, the point being people are hungry for NEW VH!
The NEW Van Halen release is now scheduled for a 4th quarter release, which means essentially Oct-Dec. This is not a rumor, it should be on their release sheets and is a matter of public record if you can get your hands on one. We are currently working on this.
Other than money with DLR being a hold up, is that with Valerie being on Touched By An Angel now, things at home for Eddie are more hectic. Take it for what it's worth, info from the horse's mouth.
Dave mentioned how he is celebrating 35 years of practicing Kung Fu, he said that everything he ever did on stage was directly related to Kung Fu and his martial arts. He said he works out doing his Kung Fu about 5 days a week. He is working on a solo album, and has been doing filming at his home, the MOJO DOJO, for his upcoming DVD release and i guess videos for single release)......using all the people that worked on his old VH and solo videos(cast and crews).....expect FUN FUN FUN, freaks, midgets, stripper,s bunnies, etc.
DLR called a Van Halen reunion INEVITABLE, and it would be soon, in our lifetime, and before our clothes go out of fashion, he also mentioned that he very much wants the reunion to happen, he mentioned they recorded some STELLAR music, and that they hate each other, but it's the combustability of that which can make for some great great music(you know said with all the Dave mannerisms).......DLR also mentioned that he hasn't spoken to the guys in about 18 months.

Take this for what it is.. However, until it is confirmed by the band themselves, that is all that it is. Until then, we all wait with bated breath for the announcement that will turn the music world on its ear. The return of the Mighty Van Halen!!

i looked up Ivan Reitman on www.imdb.com/ (internet movie data base) and so here are his upcoming movies this year (because it said vh was going to have the title song)

Old School (2002)- about Three men are disenchanted with life and try to recapture their college days.
WITH: Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell

Killing Me Softly (2002)

A London research scientist ops out of her comfortable but ordinary .
Heather Graham

what do you think?

I did the exact same thing Mean_Street! I'd say they could do either movie. A party type song for old school, or a "Me wise magic", "Fire in the Hole" for a thriller type movie that Killing me softly will be.
