Got some news for all you kids that is from a very trusted friend of mine that I have in Warner Music Canada. It seems that we are all going to be able to pick up an all new hits package that will see the shelves in May. It is not the same as G.H. vol 1, it will be new packaging and will see a worldwide release. From what I gather it will be backed by T.V. adds (Not unlike what Prince, Abba, and Pink Floyd had), and tons of other promo. No new tracks will be included. I will share the track listing as soon as I get the info. Warner is expecting very reasonable numbers (1 mill +)

Dont know how I feel about it. Happy something new is comming, just not happy it is a rehash of the tunes we all have. Sounds like the brothers will have nothing to do with it. No news of the rumored box.

Before we start posting for Brad to answer this, let's recall that Brad has stated a few times that WB would not be able to release anything without VH's approval.

However, I have heard it rumoured that Van Halen owes WB a shit-load of money for "up-front" costs on the never-completed-second Gary album. So it would make sense that Van Halen agrees to something in the near future to get the "money collectors" off their backs.

If this is true, hopefully their will be something new, and not just a Best of Volume 2.

Would another "Best Of" do well without at least one "new" song on it? I highly doubt it.

Exactly. Throw some of those Roth tunes from 2000 on there and I'd definitely buy it!

c'mon guys these type of BEST OF cd's aren't released for you and me. they're released for people that didn't buy the VH albums. the people who liked JUMP or WHEN IT'S LOVE but never bought the whole album. maybe owned the 45 or cassette single. that's who these repackaged BEST OF albums are for. they've been doing this a lot lately with artists like the Cars, Ramones, Sting, etc....

the only thing good about these repack's is they sometime have great liner notes....that's all.

What i'm wondering is, did they owe warner bros (X) number of albums before gary, or did VH sign a new contract when gary came on board???

cause if they just owe WB one more, that could be a best of, i say put that out so they can do what they want when they want and not have to answer to WB anymore. It would just suck if they are fullfilling a contract from 7-8 years ago.

Murph... the word was VH owed WB one more on their contract after III. But when things went south w/ Ed's health and the general outlook wasn't good. WB & VH parted company and I don't know if it's fact... but the noise on the net indicated terms within the split left WB with 1st option if VH came back... Don't take any of this as actual fact though... it's all from talk on the net which the odds are not in favor of any of it being factual but things kinda played out in a way to support it.
