From DLRNewsdesk:

Theory #564839:

DLR has announced that he is going on tour for the Summer of 2001. Nothing past that as of this date. Michael Anthony announced that Van Halen would be touring in the Fall of 2001 and the singer would be "someone that you all know". Dweezil Zappa did say that the band has completed 5-6 songs WITH Roth. My sources still stand by their word that the band has signed the contracts and are moving forward.

Now here is where I feel that it gets interesting, is there a chance that Cherone did sign a 5 year deal with Van Halen and the contract runs out in late August or September? Perhaps the Van Halen's and DLR are actually waiting this whole thing out, letting Cherone's contract run out so they can avoid all of the potential litigation, disputes both contractually and finacially. Plus it does open the doors to moving on without all of the aggrivation.

If this is true about Gary's contract, it sounds reasonable to me. However, I would think if Gary asked to be released from his contract this doesnt hold water. But if Van Halen was too cheap to buy him out it might be true.

I thought Cherone was already bought out by WB...I could be wrong though, I probably am, considering no one REALLY knows.

That does make sense though.

Maybe. All this stuff might finally come together next fall and they'll tour.

Anything is possible in Van Halenland but I think the cancer thing is the main reason why there's a hold up. I'm hoping the reason why Dave is on tour this summer is for tune up reasons only and that his work will resume with VH this fall. Who knows but it's fun to speculate.

Yep, it's all possible, but the bottem line on all of it is that whatever the reason is, the band should have the decency and respect for the fans to FUCKING TELL US if that's what it is! Whether it's Gary's contract or any of the other countless theory's that have all been forced to float around the past 2 1/2 years! This has always been my main source of outrage throughout this entire nonsensical fiasco. It has never been that Van Halen simply hasn't put out an album in 3 years now (although of course I want that, too), but the fact that they have COMEPLETELY disrespected and ignored ALL of us loyal fans the ENTIRE time. NO explanation WHATSOEVER as to what the hell's going on with the band, NO update on ANYTHING as far as making music goes. Basically they've taken us all for granted for their own personal reasons. The great debate on whether or not Van Halen or any other musical artist "owes" it's fans anything seems to come up every once in a while. Well, I'll say this, while it may or may not be the case that Van Halen "owes" us fans music, one thing is for sure as far I'm concerned ... they damn sure owe us the basic respect, and customer service of simply letting us know what the hell's going on, whatever the case is. Is that too much to ask for?

If there is a contractual hold up then how can Cherone go on and do the TOJ shit and other things. Wasn't it reported that he did Van Halen songs. I would think that would be against any contractual obligations he still may have will VH. Why can he make money and VH have to wait. Its Bullshit.
Nice try to reason it though.

thats a pretty decent point to ponder...

I thought he was only performing vh songs that he actually wrote and or created on 3 with them though. He would have partial ownership of those I would think.

Interesting theory.

{humor}

Remember, 100 people asked the question, "What's the VH holdup?" If "Cherone's Contract" is on the board you get the points and win the game.

SURVEY SAYS....

*BZZZZ*

Oh sorry. Let's see what the number one reason was...

*board flips over*

Who the &@% knows *audience oohhhs*

Well, that's okay, we have some lovely parting gifts for you. Until next time, this is Ray Combs from Family Feud!

{/humor}

But seriously, I'm going to say contracts would not be a holdup anymore.

Gary could have played some DLR or Sammy era VH songs live if he wanted to with Tribe Of Judah.

Bands do covers of songs from other bands live all of the time.

Just in case you didn't know, Ray Combs killed himself several years ago after suffering a severely debilitating skiing accident. Not that it has ANYTHING to do with this thread, but I thought I'd point it out for those who didn't know.
Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.
