HFT for sure. You can't beat that intro, main riff or that solo. I like the production/mix better too. It's probably in my top 5 VH songs. Whereas EWS wouldn't even be in the top 15.

Default Everybody Wants Some vs. Hot For Teacher

I'll take the EWS drum intro over HFT drum intro all day. Then I'll take Ed's EWS entry over his HFT entry too. EWS is just mean. Vintage Van Halen at its best.

The solo clearly goes to HFT though. That thing is Eddie brilliance at his best. It is actually one of those "I know where I was the first time I heard it moments." 1984 and I was 15 and I can still see myself staring at the boom box speaker in awe. That song, but solo in particular, floored me.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I'm a little sick of EWS, but, BUT, it is just a fucking knockout punch live in concert. Still a highlight thirty seven years later.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Radio is totally for the lowest common denominator... for the masses, the ignorant masses. The McDonalds of the burger world. Fudruckers is the best I've ever had, other than my father making a burger from fresh ground round bought at a meat market.

HFT has the video that world went crazy for, and the best solo, and an incredible drum intro.... but really, taking the MTV HFT video out of the mix, just musically, EWS, on the whole, is the better musically and lyrically than the great HFT.

Of course, all 6 are, but I digress.

I don't know, I never can sick of that intro. Or the record

I love HFT. Another great intro. Amazing riff. Amazing record. But where they were on WCF was a such completely different place that just got me internally, somehow. I never get sick of it. FW, either.

Yeah, the sound of the drums on the intro to EWS on the album are perfect. I also love how Al has always played it live, too, adding the quarter notes on the hi hat and hitting the crashes at the same time Ed hits those power chords on the "4 and".

As DD said, even after all these years it is still freaking EPIC when they play it live. Still my favorite song ever and my favorite song to see VH blaze through live. It's a shame we didn't get to see or hear it live for 23 years, but I've loved it every time these last three tours.

EWS was my choice for the band to open with in concert. It has the perfect build up for a Dave intro.... You should always open with a top tier song. And EWS is 100% CVH.

Wow, tough one. As far as negatives, Hot for Teacher is a bit too manic for me. I like a bit more groove and a little less Jolt Cola in my VH. For Everybody Wants Some, I always felt the riff was way too close to ATBL, which Ive been tired of hearing for at least a decade.

For the positives, instrumentally, HFT is monster. As a VH fan, how is it not epic? But I have to give the win to EWS despite it being a more traveled path instrumentally. I give it the edge because of Dave. For me, that song really captures everything that makes him special and might be one of his best performances on the first 6 albums.

Also, bonus points for being featured in Better Off Dead.

    HFT for me.

Btw - anyone notice that the last post in this thread before being resurrected was on 9-9-01?

Damn, the world changed 2 days later, and not for the better.

HFT for me. It's the ultimate heavy rock boogie.
