Is there a copy of that song floating around anywhere? From reading that old Sammy interview it sounds like a great song. Any info would be helpful. Thanks Dave

This song has never leaked out into the bootleg world. It would definitely be interesting to hear it, but I'd guess it would probably be something of a letdown because of it's Stairway to Heaven reputation.

Lissen,
Well, I don't know that I'd say it never leaked out onto boot legs, but last time I visited the NAMM convention in LA, a couple years back mind you, I think I got to listen to it. I mean, I've only heard bootleg versions of the song (it was hell to find a 1/4" reel to reel to play the thing, but well worth it)... and when I heard it, it was unfinished, and lacked solos, although the guitar solo secions were rhythmically intact. At least that's where I thought the solo would go since it was only an empty interlude. The song itself was about how one person was reaching out to another, as I and my friends could best interpret. Some of the deepest and best words ever out of a VH song. Besides the fact that Ed's riffage was outstanding; contained, yet comprised all the elements of great hard driven rock guitar playing. But back to the lyrics, this is a much more mature Van Halen here... in the key of Am, which reminded me a bit of "Stairway" and "ain't talkin' bout love" but was definately in it's own league... but some of the verses did, melodically, remind me of "I'll Wait" off of '84, even though that was in Dm... another thing I liked a lot about it was that amazingly, the bass was fairly audible... I really enjoyed it, unfinished as it was. If you haven't done so yet, do yourself a favor and track yourself down a copy. Well worth the listen in my humble opinion.
"Well, well, well...Despite what the Florida tourism board has been feeding all you ignorant people, it is I, every female's top tourist destination and the man who's crotch is truly the happiest place on earth. The man who makes Minnie Mouse's panties wet and the man who just last night helped Daisy Duck fulfill her dream, as she took one for the team, and I made her squeal and scream, as I filled her full of cream. It is I, the bacon in her eggs, the man for whom she begs, and the face between her legs. The Quintessential and original Studmuffin and a good lord, have mercy, Goddamn handsome man. Turd, I shoot out a full condom filla and it taste like vanilla', Slinger." - Turd Slinger

Lissen,
Turd isn't offended by being a Turd, just look at his quote! But seriously, I never actually had posession of it. I live in NY and I was just visiting LA for NAMM. I met a bunch of people a couple years back, and they had a "bootleg" copy of it. I did hold it for a second... but I didn't get to keep it, as you can imagine. Sorry!

Hey Turd (lol), You're sure you're not talking about Crossing Over, right? It almost sounds as if that's what that could have been on that "boot".
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

Now that you mention this, it sounds like he might be describing Crossing Over. TurdSlinger - I know it's been a while, but do you remember if there was a guitar line/riff played at the end that went on for a minute or two to the fadeout that was remniscent of Love Walks In? If so, then that was Crossing Over.

Well, speaking as one who HATES 'Stairway', I doubt I'd be too let down by it.
