I'll just cut and paste this thought I had from a few weeks ago here on Links. I had asked Jerel about this bootleg.

Hey Jerel, sorry to ask again, but does it sound like all the tracks are from the same show?

The reason I ask is this; If You Can't Rock Me is on there, and it was never a single, and was on the It's Only Rock and Roll album which was released on October 18, 1974. Now, if you check out the club dates in both the VHE and at the Official site, VH didn't play Gazzari's at all in October of that year, and only four times in November, and then not at all in December. So, if all these dates are correct (and it's hard to say if they are), then this recording would have to be from either the 14th, 15th, 16th or 17th of November 1974.

Sorry, just playing Sherlock Holmes here

I wasn't really re-asking the question, just letting Sir Loonsalot know about my alleged detective work of the potential dates for this show.

This show definitely sounds historic just by virtue of it's 1974 pedigree.

I have nothing to back this up but I suspect the band were probably having themselves taped from the SB at times back in the club days. Maybe to check how they sounded, to sell, to give to friends, to circulate to record companies etc ?

By the time of the WACF/FW tours I guess it was just some guy in the audience with a tape recorder.

For example "Eyes of the night " of 1976 sounds better of " remebering Largo " ! ...
Btw ... anyway ... boots in low quality sound of Van halen are cool too ... yep ... every VH boot finally is cool for me !

i agree...most of my 76,77,78 boots sound really good...especially the japan tour stuff from 78 and 79..most of that stuff is soundboard or good audience...actually on my bright lights big largo 80 boot dave talks about the show being filmed and recorded for a later release....wonder where that film ended up?...well we know where the soundboard recording ended up

The quality of the Goldenwest Ballroom boot still blows me away. And their version of "The Rover" on that sucker for that matter. There has to be a few more of these Club Days recordings somewhere.

This show will be up...VERY>..VERY SOON.

The quality is fair, sometimes hard to listen to, but...it's RARE right?

It's still somewhat rare. I just got my copy of it a month or two ago, even though I've had the info on that recording for over a year. In that timespan it hasn't been circulated that much.
