O.K., so that is a DLR original then. I wasn't sire. Thank you both. I see it on Napster all the time, but I guess somebody got confused and just labeled it Van Halen. Thanks again.

Tobacco Road is not a DLR original song. It was written by John D. Loudermilk.

The Nashville Teens(part of the British Invasion)I believe are the earliest band to record it. Paul Revere and the Raiders did a cool version of it. As did Junior Wells. And Edgar Winter. And Led Zeppelin. And War with Eric Burdon?

"Look when I started screaming I was stealing from James Brown and the Ohio Players...

We used to play,"It's Your Thing," by the Isley Brothers...

I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints...

The only thing I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues.I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago,and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker..."---David Lee Roth

I never remember them doing Tobacco Road. Roth did it solo on Eat 'em & Smile, and think he actually played it on his last tour.

Didn't I see somewhere that some of the Eat 'Em 'n Smile songs were originally intended to be VH songs, but for whatever reason, never were?

it's pretty good, I dont' know what edition I have but there have been updates. They actually go into alot of detail on the recording of EEAS which you'd probably like. It's not biased towards Sam, Dave or Gary...plays it right down the middle. I've pretty much got it memorized-yes I'm a geek. It doesn't cover some things..no entry for Ed lefler which I found odd, like the sammy era or not he was the bands manager for along time. They give alot of unreleased song titles and do a pretty good breakdown of all the tours and what type of bootleg is availible.

    it's a good buy IMO.
