I'm opening up this topic here as I could have
sworn someone addressed the problem I'm having
recently, and I thought it was in this forum.

Anyway, occasionally, a CDR burned from my
computer won't play on some systems. I thought
I read something here or elsewhere about a crude
technique regarding marking up the outer surface
of the recorded CDR, which makes it playable.

If anybody knows about this or any other
techniques, please respond. I have nothing to
lose except the potential use of a few coasters
if I can't figure this out...

Some players (CD, DVD, etc) are not compatible with CDR media. You can likely check that out at the players manufacturer website, or in the owners manual it will tell you what types of media it can handle.

The marking technique is for the most recent copy protection scheme on music (and other, I'm assuming) CDs. Unless I've missed something, it has nothing whatsoever to do with CDRs.

    Thanks Yerfdog.

The marking technique to foil copy protection is exactly what I had read, looks like I'm SOL for now.

Homeunit, you can close this pup out.

There are some rather inexpensive players out there that have compatibility with most every source, even at Walmart, from what I hear.
