Anyone have an opinion as to what boot from the '78 tour has the best sound quality?

I don't have all my shows here with me right now but from memory, I'd have to go with "Atomic Punks". This is the famed show from December 20 that has been recorded on several different boots. "AP" has a great, clean sound, IMO. I do know that "Civic Pride" is the same show, but for some reason, it's slowed down considerably. It just lacks the energy and punch of "AP". There are probably a few more out there, but I'm away from my shows right now. I'd always recommend checking out vhboots.com and read the reviews for yourself. That is how I made some of my determinations on which shows I was really wanting to pursue. Of course, the ultimate determination is up to you.

Of the ones I have, I would say the best sounding two would be Shinjuku 78 The Other Show and Stand By Your Side (Paris). Those two have great sound.

Particularly like Ed's extended solo at the beginning of "Little Dreamer". "Down In Flames" is great too..."This will be on our next album"......Still think they should have left it like that insteda of incorporating "You're No Good"

Oklahoma 1978...festival show...sounds outdoor and during the day...INCREDIBLE version of Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love...Feel Your Love Tonight is smokin'...includes a drum solo...a real Zeppelin-esque tight but loose feel to this gig...

The June 1 London show is a soundboard board recording and a great show. I'm listening to it now.

you can check it out here:

and here's a sample of "Bottoms Up" to see if you like the sound quality, since that's what you're looking for.

IMO the best 'sounding' boot is Ipswich 28/5/78, great balance between Ed and Dave volume wise and doesn't suffer from that distance sound that a lot of boots have (the Gaumont was a small venue). Shinjuku, is a good one, but played side by side, Ipswich wins for me in the sound recording stakes.
