Not to me. I know it outsold all but the first album and had some radio hits on it, but it's the least-played (by me!) of the first six albums and one of their weaker efforts IMO. Feel free to disagree.

Fair Warning, bro.

They were all over the map on that one songwriting-wise....it had it all.

Rock solid from Meanstreet to One Foot.....

Unfortunately, that awesome music was spawned from a lot of bad blood within the band.....

I am sorry, the band never had a "zenith" with Roth anyway. It started in 78' with VH I and it never ended !!

Bring it back, the most anticipated reunion in rock history !

I like Women and Children First. Fair Warning is also good. 1984 is probably my least favorite of the Dave albums.

I forgot about Diver Down, that's my least favorite album. I guess that would make 1984 my second least favorite. Sorry!!!!

In terms of popularity and success, I would say yeah. I still think VH1 is the greatest thing VH ever created while 1984 is actually overrated (besides Panama and Jump, the rest is crap, especially Hot For Teacher). But VH was HUGE during 1984. Nobody can deny that.

I can't believe that you can say with a straight face that Panama and Jump are the only good things about 1984. They are, in my opinion, the worst things about that album. I especially hate Panama, and Jump is a close second.

You are, however, entitled to your opinion...but Hot For Teacher really can't be called crap!

I dunno, yo.

Once the airwaves became saturated with the Jump/Panama/HFT thing, I gravitated away from the more radio friendly stuff & went for the non popular stuff. I really started to see the greatness of House of Pain (my fave song on that album), Girl Gone Bad, Top Jimmy, & Drop Dead Legs....
They were huge in '84 popularity wise, but in a song writing sense, they were most hungry & original in the early years....

Okay, first I don't think that Hot For Teacher (I'm assuming you mean that when you say HFT") would be considered radio friendly but...

Also, I just have to say that I never cared for House of Pain, but it is certainly better than Panama and Jump put together.

It may not be, but it gets a boatload of airplay in the Bay Area classic rock rotation.....

Well, NOW it gets airplay. At the time I think it was NOT something you would normally hear on the radio.

Man "Jump" is definitely the worst thing about "1984." HFT didn't even chart Top #50, so can't really say it was a hit at all. IMO HFT is one of the handful of songs that absolutely defines the DLR era.

The first album is incredible.

Fair Warning......great.....wish there was more.

84......haven't listened to it in a while......not at the top of my list.

HFT, musically interesting......but as cheesy as Big Fat Money and Sucker.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Jimmy,

I actually dug everything about Big Fat Money except the guitar solo in the middle. I just thought it was out of place....Eddie's intro smokes tho...

Sucker tho? Nah....not my bag, baby.
