Well ladies and gents, I saw Sammy last night. It was perhaps the strangest show I've seen.

    Highlights:

Vic playing bass for 1/3 of the show
Sammy playing bass for 1/2 of FWYS
Nearly naked chicks on stage (I'm easily entertained)

The show started out a little oddly. They played The Real Deal behind the Cabo Wabo curtain. Sammy sounded GREAT on that tune. Very growlish. After that, the curtain came up and they launched into Ten-13.

Y'all'll have to forgive me for not keeping good track of the setlist, as I'm not so good at that while enjoying a show.

During the third tune Mona had to leave the stage. Vic took the bass, and Sammy said that she wasn't feeling well. They jammed on some Zepplin while trying to figure out what to do.

Vic played bass on quite a few tunes. He did an alright job. Sammy did a couple of accoustic tunes on his own, which was very reminiscent of his Van Halen solos. Sammy also spent a fair amount of time hamming it up.

Mona came back out, and they found her a chair. She lasted through 2 songs, and disappeared at the begining of FWYS. Halfway through the song Sammy realized there was no bass, and had a roadie bring Mona's out for him. Never thought I'd see that. He managed to sing and play fairly well.

Mona came back out and finished up the show. All in all, it was about a two hour and 15 minute show. I'm not sure it was worth the $45/ticket, which is a little under what it came to thanks to Ticketbastard. I did enjoy the show, though.

Seems like everytime I see Sammy something goes wrong with the show. Back in '97, they had problems with the wireless and had to wear tails. Sammy lost his tail a couple times. In '99, Sammy cancelled his show in Louisville. Some bullshit about the stage not being ready. Fact of the matter was that Sammy tried to play an arena, and barely sold out the main floor. And now this year, with the unhealthy bass player.

All in all, Sammy was in fine form. His voice sounded great, and he put on a good show.

Looks like he needs Mike, Ed and Al back Just kidding. Maybe Denny Carmassi, Bill Church and that keyboard player he had back in the early 80s. Just my input.

Was at the Minneapolis show Wednesday, and I agree with MikeL that it was a bit bizarre, but all in all, Sammy was pretty good.
For awhile there, it seemed like the band really did have no idea what to do when Mona left the stage. Hell, it took Sammy a few minutes even realize she left. Give Mona credit, she looked like death worn over but finished up the last hour or so of the show.
Once she decided she was able to finish it out, they dug into the hard-rocking tunes we were all waiting to hear and the show finished with a bang at least.
Pleasant surprise for me was Vic Johnson on guitars. Seemed a lot more at ease on stage and, just my opinion, played a lot better than when I saw them in the summer of '99.

I just found this old thread by accident. I recall being disappointed that I missed this show, and until now I never knew of Mona's illness.

    Weird!

I remember seeing the 2nd show at Alpine for the Monsters tour w/ VH & Sam in 88 I think. Sam had cracked his tailbone the night before, but still toughed it out that night. He let the audience know what had happened and apolized ahead of time for not running around and being in full bocephus mode or something. In the end, it's the VH show I measured all other Sammy VH era shows against....nothing came close. I'll give Sam this...he tries his butt off to please the fans at every show, no matter the circumstances. Heck, I even saw him behind the stage at the Kansas city show during the Scorps set later that year and he actually remembered my name from meeting me at Alpine, not too shabby.

Ok genius, it's an old thread. If you don't like Hagar, that's fine, I suggest that you quit reading threads that have anything to do with him.

Swell. Comments on a seven year old thread. If Mona was pregnant, one would hope she's had the child by now.

Bro, cut it out. Stop trolling for responses to your Hagar remarks, and stop making below-the-belt put-downs like this. Brett's made it very clear he isn't gonna put up with that shit on this board anymore.

I revisited this thread when it came up as a "related" thread to one of my other posts. I live in Minneapolis, and I recall missing this show back in 2000 for no other reason than I just didn't get tickets in time. It was interesting to read about the weird show I missed.
