don't you all feel for mike? i mean, i can just see him being eaten alive inside with all this crap... i realize he's also a family man and probably enjoys being home too, but it's the brothers (probably just ed) who have all these problems with the singers... mike was really good friends with hagar, and probably with roth too... (you can't imagine mike NOT getting along with anyone)... i can just see him being the one who kinda gets shit on in the band... if i were him, i'd be getting fed up with this crap...

Yeah I feel bad Mikey and Sammy can't be friends anymore! But without, Dave, Sammy, Eddie, and Al, the name Van Halen would not be around today. Without Dave they may not have ever made it to the big time, without Ed and Al there would never even be a Van Halen the band, without Sammy the band would have probably ended in 1984, or quickly have faded away with any other singer, and would have been known as just another 80's band! While Mikey is a very importat part of this band, I cannot say without Mike there would never have been VH, or without Mikey, VH wouldn't have made it as far as they did and remained popular!! (78-97 is pretty damn good and when they get a new cd out it will be 1978-2001 and that will be even better!!) So while Mikey is a great guy and a very important part of this band, he should have to put up with this shit sometimes, because even though it wouldnt be the same to us, VH could live without him!!

    But Mikey rules!!

i disagree... i don't think van halen would survive without mike... he's VERY important and that was part of my point, that he's SO important, yet it seems he gets the shaft... if they were to get rid of michael (especially now), i don't think they'd go far... but who knows... if they got rid of mike and picked up dave, they may... i don't know...

Let me ask you this. If you ask casual fans to name all the members of VH who is the one they usually can't name. Mike brings a friendlines, and may relieve tension within the band, but without him the band could go a hell of alot farther then wihtout Dave, Sammy, Ed, or Al.

I don't think Mike was good friends with Roth.

In an Inside Mag interview in regards to the possible reunion with Roth in '96, Mike said he was the first one to say he did not want to tour with Roth. But, if Ed and Al wanted to do that he'd go along with it because he's a "brother".

It's interesting to imagine what direction the band would have gone in if a certain member hadn't been there. I think Mikey was extremely important to VH's success in two ways.

    1. He provides unmistakeable back-up vocals that have always given VH a very unique sound, and allowed Dave in particular to concentrate on his showmanship without worrying about things falling apart. And he helped nail those high parts when Sammy was feeling worse for wear on a long tour.

    2. His willingness to play a supporting musical role allowed Edward and Alex to go off and create anything they wanted. Had Mikey been the type to want to compete with Edward for lead playing, the music would surely have not grooved like it did.

Also, being that Mikey is undoubtedly a multi-millionaire, there's no reason to feel too sorry for the position he is in.

    Long live Mikey.

What about his background vocals. That's just as recognizable as Ed's guitar playing and Dave's singing. If it weren't for Mikey, the band would just not be the same and probably wouldn't make it as far, Dave or no Dave. Anyone can play a bass, but with his singing, there's no other person that can hold a candle to his being in the band. Besides, he's the original Van Halen bassist. He was in before Dave was anyway.

No I don't feel sorry for Mike, like Glenn said, he is making the big bucks!

I wish I was Mike Anthony!

I do get the impression that Mike has little or no say on what happens in the band from interviews I have read.
I remember that he told Ed and Al that he didn't want Roth back but they got him anyway. That has to suck!

I think that he could be replaced. More than anyone else in the band anyway, and he knows that, so he usually keeps quiet.

He's probably just glad to be in the position that he's in. And if he ever needs an ego boost, he just needs to step back and remember...

They asked HIM to be in the band, not the other way around
