    Sammy Album notes from Tower
    Records!http://www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=2721855

On the eve of reaching an age when most people are thinking about settling
down and enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation, Sammy Hagar shows
no signs of letting up. As the California native begins his third decade of
making music and performing for his legions of fans all around the world, he
simply continues to do what he does best, rock.

Rock and roll everyman Sammy Hagar began his well-documented career in the
California hard rock quartet Montrose. Following the release of two hugely
successful albums in the early 70's, he embarked on what would prove to be a
long and fecund career as a solo artist where his fervent fan base continued
to grow as he developed into a household name. Following a nine-year run as
the front man for Van Halen, Sammy once again decided to stand onstage
alone. Through it all, Sammy has never compromised his values or tried to
become something he's not. "I wear shorts and t-shirts onstage, just like my
'normal' life. What people see is how I really am. I have fun onstage and
I'm not out there doing an act."

A self-proclaimed "changeling," Sammy Hagar has managed to maintain his
position as one of music's most successful and accomplished songwriters and
musicians while still flying under the radar of mainstream popularity. "I'm
not on the cover of Time magazine like U2 or Springsteen. I sort of cruise
through all the different trends and try not to get locked into any one of
them and have maintained and long and healthy career."

Not 4 Sale is the 15th solo album of his career and finds Sammy at the
absolute top of his game. Once again backed by The Waboritas (Victor
Johnson, Jesse Harms, Mona and David Lauser), the album's ten tracks range
from the straight forward, kick-ass rock of "Stand Up" to the punk rock
riffs of "The Big Square Inch" to the future show stopper "Halfway To
    Memphis."

"I'm very proud of this record. It has a certain groove to it that I think
my fans will like. Working on other albums in the past with people who are
very groove conscious like Bootsy [Collins] and Mickey [Hart] was a great
experience. I was always so riff conscious."

The album opens with "Stand Up," which was originally written for the Mark
Wahlberg movie Rock Star. Hagar's unmistakable howl immediately grabs you
and gives way to a simultaneously groovy and thunderous guitar riff.

The equally hard rocking "Hallelujah" follows and finds the bombastic
sound augmented by a seemingly Doors inspired keyboard solo by Jesse Harms.
The track serves as a mild political statement from the red rocker. "It's a
song about how it's impossible to win a war. It's not a time to cheer and
praise 'hallelujah' after a victory of killing. Saying 'hallelujah' in that
    context sounds hollow to me."

"Halfway To Memphis," is Hagar's favorite track on the record. "It's the
saddest and yet the most hopeful song. It's about that one moment in time
just before a big personal breakthrough like right before you fall in love,
or get that that big break or get over some kind of hurt. I get goose bumps
every time I listen to it."

"Things Have Changed," the album's first single, stands out as being the
one song that was not written by Hagar. "Jesse brought this to me as we were
finishing the record and it was the last song we recorded. It's a great
    tune."

"Whole Lotta Zep" showcases Sammy as he pays tribute to one of his
favorite bands, the legendary Led Zeppelin. "I've always thought the chorus
[of Whole Lotta Love] is one of the sexiest things I've ever heard. It's not
so much a cover as much as it is a tribute to one of the greatest bands
    ever."

Originally written for country star Toby Keith, Sammy was so pleased with
the final arrangement and sound of "The Big Nail" that he decided to keep it
for himself. "It's kind of a bad boy cowboy tune. I cannot wait to play this
    song in concert."

"Make It Alright" follows which Hagar calls "a simple feel good song. It's
got a great hook and I like this song a lot."

The album's title track is indicative of where the 55-year-old Hagar finds
himself. "Not 4 Sale was inspired by a songwriter and performer name Joe
Hutchinson who I saw with Bobby Flay on the Food Network. He was singing a
song with the lyric 'all the money in the world' and I found the lyric so
inspiring that I wrote a song about it. We tracked Joe down and I gave him a
co-writing credit on the track. I love the concept of being so happy that I
don't need to do anything I don't want to do. This song epitomizes where I
am in my life right now and it seemed only right to also name the album Not
    4 Sale."

The hard rocking and punky "The Big Square Inch" finds Sammy sharing the
microphone with drummer David Lauser. "He's been my drummer since the early
1970's and we've been friends since we were kids. He's the worst singer in
the world but he has such an attitude, the songs really rocks."

Closing out the album is "Karma Wheel," a song Sammy says was partially
inspired by Radiohead's 'Kid A.' "I believe in karma very strongly and I
just like the softness of the singing and the overall tenderness of it all."

His passion for music is equaled only by his passion for life and new
experiences. After visiting Cabo San Lucas in the early 80's and simply
falling in love with the location,

Sammy continued to come back with the goal of opening a tequila bar which
would double, as he called it, "a place to perform when the mood struck me."
Featuring a world-class menu and a performance space big enough for his
legendary birthday parties every October, Sammy opened the Cabo Wabo
Cantina. After some proverbial bumps in the road, the club, in Sammy's
words, "has become much more than I ever imagined it to be."

In an effort to find the very best tequila to serve at Cabo Wabo, Hagar
hooked up with a small tequila maker in Jalisco. "The tequila business is
awesome. I was just trying to find the very best tequila in the world. When
I did, I loved it so much I started making it."

He's sold tens of millions of records, owns a popular and successful club
in Mexico and is a successful entrepreneur. So what's the next step for
Sammy Hagar? "As long as I can keep playing music and writing songs, that's
what I want to do. My fans have accepted me in shorts and tennis shoes with
a cocktail in my hand and I'm very much into catering to my fans."
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

    -George Carlin 1937 - 2008
