I miss those big festival shows - Lollapalooza and Ozzfest don't do it for me. My first Van Halen concert was the '86 Texxas Jam. I don't remember the whole line up, but I'm pretty sure Dio and Loverboy (skipped their set) were part of it. My second VH concert was the '88 Texxas Jam/Monsters of Rock tour - Metallica, Scorpions, Dokken, etc. THAT was awesome! That was the show where I watched part of Eddie's solo from under the stage. Man I miss the Jam.

88 Jam
I was there too. This is the show where Sam's voice went south and he promised that they would do a free show to make up for it. I said to myself "Yeah, right." I'll be damned if they didn't follow through with it. What was it called the Dallas Alley show or something like that?

At the Jam they opened with "Summer Nights". They also did Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious". That one was very cool.

I also remember that George Lynch's guitar kept cutting out on him. Metallica really rocked. I wasn't really in to them before that show but I've been a fan ever since.
It was freakin hot as hell though. I'll never forget it. Great memory.

Actually, the '88 Monsters of Rock Tour was Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Dokken and KINGDOM COME (the one-hit-wonder band) - at least that was the lineup when they were in Buffalo at Rich Stadium.

My first VH show was in 1986, first tour with Sammy, in Niagara Falls. I missed the 1984 show with Dave and have been pissed ever since!!

My 1st show was the 1978 Oakland, Ca Day on the Green too...

The bill was:

AC/DC
Van Halen
Pat Travers
Foreigner
Aerosmith

Ac/DC, VH and Travers rocked... Never have cared for foreigner... Aeroshit was decent that day...

One of the best VH shows I've seen!!!

1979 at the Forum in Los Angeles. I remember sitting/standing on the sidewalk in front of the Broadway at the Whittwood Mall in Whittier, CA all night, on a school night, no less to get tickets.

4/08/80 - Invasion Tour in Northlands Coliseum (now Skyreach Center). Opening act was Rail (man that boy broke a lot of drum sticks). Musical highlight - Ed and Dave (intro to Fools).

5/7/80 at the Spectrum in Philly. Rail opened. Remember the guitarists got on each others shoulders and played. The wall of sound, flaming gong and Jack Daniels. And, I threw up the next day in a job johnny during our college baseball teams playoff game. We lost, I had two hits and it was definitely worth it.

Dallas on the FUCK tour. Man what a let down. Everything I always imagined Van Halen was, they wern't. No striped guitars, No crazy running around. No crazy clothes, etc.... Sammy singing Jump I've since then been content listening to the records once or twice to see what kind of shit Eddie is doing. Those were the days when they had records out every few years.
