Van Halen will be no. 7 on VH1's Top 100 Hard Rock band special. I think thats pretty damn good considering their status right now.The thing that disturbs me is that Nirvana is No.6

Wow, 76 views and no replies, guess I'll have to venture in here.

I wonder how they differentiate (sp?) between "rock" and "hard rock"? Everybody could argue 'til they're blue in the face about the list, but one thing that really struck me is that the Rolling Stones were (I think) #67. I was surprised they were so far down the list. VH is in the top ten, that's cool. I don't really agree with Nirvana's placement, but there's alot of quality bands in there.

I think that Nirvana is #6 because Dave Grohl was one of the panelists. Go figure.

Nirvana is only that high because, whether you like them or the music they produced or not, they spearheaded the great musical change in '92.

And then Kobain killed himself and ushered in the great musical wasteland of the rest of the '90s.

Quote from VH1's the list - the night was "best song of the 90s" (DMB Crash into Me was picked by the audience). The internet nomination was GNR's November Rain, which the person stated, "A good song in an otherwise poor musical period."

VH #7 isn't bad considering where they've gone the past 4 years. Nirvana, IMO, is one of the most overrated bands ever. They did change the face of rock in the early 90's but I don't think they would have lasted even if Cobain didn't kill himself.

Hey Stuff- Nirvana did spearhead a change in 1992 but "Great" is hardly the adjective I would use to describe the change. I think the change ruined Rock with the Grunge genre.

Ruined rock? At the time Nirvana came around, there wasn't much to ruin. The bands that were worthy of survival did just fine. U2, DLR, Van Hagar, R.E.M. (to name a few)

As for the repetitive, boring sickeningly saccharine hair bands, they ruined themselves. Radio and MTV were begging for anything to take the place of that crap. Thank God something did.

BTW, I only checked into this thread because I thought it might have been news about the release of Van HALEN's 7th album

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?

preaching the gospel of the one true Van HALEN for the redemption of a rock n roll world that's gone
    to boy band Hell.

I meant "great" as in "really big," not "great" as in "really good"

Van Halen has had 11 studio albums to date F.O.R.D. Counting Live RHRN,Best Of Vol. 1....they have 13 albums. That should clear up any confusion that F.O.R.D. may have caused to anyone by continually mentioning some band by the name of van hagar?? It's Van Halen. Always has been, always will be. Unless of course Eddie or Alex decide to change the name of THEIR band.Later.

Van HALEN has 6 studio albums. They are working on their 7th album right now.

Van Hagar had 4 studio albums and a live album which should have been titled "FUCK live plus Sammy ruining Dave's songs"

The pathetic mess known as Van Danniels had one studio album, and I use the term loosely.

Now THAT should clear up the confusion. But thanks for playing, Eric.
