I know this topic could be quite old and not so much of interest to some, but read this and maybe you'll get the point to this topic.
Edward Van halen is the greatest Rock guitar player ever.. We all know that, but we also know that he was raised with classical music and just listening the other day to him playing Fur Elise on guitar... I've been wondering why the hell doesn't he do a small part of his solo about classic music, We all know he can pull it off, and at the same time will refresh his solo. Otherwise he can do other stuff like the intro to Woman In Love or even Top Jimmy. Anyway just a little topic of discussion while we wait.
See ya... and long live VH

I'd definately like to see Eddie shake up his live solo. Though he gets virtually no credit for it, Eddie can play many styles of guitar and do them very well. Like you said, he could incorporate some classical music into the solo, and he's also shown in the past that he's got a great skill at the blues (his 1984 tour solo).

I've said before that maybe what they should do is do one of the faster Sammy songs (Source of Infection, Get Up) and use it as a ten minute wailing session for the three instrumentalists.

Eddie is simply awesome in the blues realm-Especially since Clapton was a big influence. Like the aforementioned 1984 bit, which I beleive is Cream's "Sitting On Top Of The World", all you gotta do is listen to stuff like "Bright Lights Big City" form the WACF tour or one of the most obvious examples, "Ice Cream Man". It would be a treat to see Ed play blues, because he takes it to an entirely different level. Someone had posted in the guitar forum that it would be awesome if Clapton and Eddie did an album together....

I don't see Ed and Clapton making an album any time soon.. there's some weird shit between these two cats

I still think he sounds more like Hendrix than any of the other guys he lists as an influence.(i think he says Jimi isn't an influence so he can throw us off the scent )

Dear GOD ! ... Your nick name speak for ya !

Btw ... Eddie Van Halen was one of the fist guitarist that changes the way to see and play the guitar ! For that reason he's considered a King ! He's a King !
    Y. Malmsteen did the same for the classical stuff , and he's playing the same scales from 1984 till now !
You're not right when you say that Ed played Fur-Elise once .... during the 5150 tour he played that song as intro of his solo for many concerts ! ... Then finally he cut that part !
I know for sure that guitarist like for example "Petrucci" are better than Eddie , but we are in the new century now !
Eddie did great stuff from 1978 (and before) till now ! ...
In your way to see maybe Jimmy Hendrix is a kinda of stupid of guitarist ! ... Hey man ... there are kings of the guitar , and cool guitarist !
Eddie and Jimmy are the two kings of the last century !

I dont think thats very fair on Ed....he is one of the greatest guitar players ever. Simple fact!...And those harmonic tappings are his trademark.(Just like Jimmi Hendrix setting fire to his guitar only more musical).
