It's a simple enough theory. Four guys, talented in their own professions come together and form a band. And they're good....REALLY FUCKING GOOD.

So these four guys move through days and days performing in clubs and eventually come across a record deal. They put out 6 amazing albums and get rich...REALLY FUCKING RICH.

But you see, these four guys are human beings. They come complete with egos and emotions and habits that eventually lead to their own demise. And the fans get hurt...REALLY FUCKING HURT.

So three out of the four move on with a fifth, then a sixth. The forth original member goes on to have a decent run of hits and kewl tunes, but neither of which really reach the status of superband they once had.

So, we as fans sit buy and watch the Van Halen show. Offically split into two groups, those who like Van Halen from start to finish...and those who like Van Halen only with DLR, we watch and wait. What amazes me, is that these four, then five, now six guys who have been Van Halen in one form or another couldn't really care who is a Sheep or an UFF or a member of EUAS. To be honest, I have been a fan since I heard 1984 on my 10th birthday. 16 years later, I am really almost embarrassed to call myself a fan. All around me are grown adults hurling insults at each other over preferance over a lead singer!

Is this how the Van Halen story is supposed to go??? Wasn't it started on the premise that good music is needed..therefore they will provide and we will listen? Do we all think it impresses Dave or Ed about how much we flame each other?

This isn't a PEACE LOVE SMILE ON YOUR BROTHER thread or post...this is a commentary on the VH on-line community. Ed is healthy, and all we can do is question his motives. Sam and Dave are touring, and all we can do is war continuously over who is better. Meanwhile Mike goes over to Peppers and a whole two days of flaming erupt over supposed secret meetings and special EX-PD Mod treatment.

    GIMME A BREAK!!

I am out of patience for a new album, or quite frankly anything from VH right about now, but it certainly doesn't give me a license to flame on anyone here, or anyone in or out of the band. I am cemented in my preferances in regards to this band, but I have respect for those who differ in opinion.

Let's just remain Fans of a band people, and not take things so seriously. After all, it's ROCK N'ROLL.

    Peace out hommies..

    Pete.

Oh hell yeah! For some, it's just a band. For US, it's a way of life. All of the various factions will agree with me here, or not, Van Halen is THE greatest rock band to ever plug in. Out.

Van Halen is the melody of my life, the harmony in my soul, the fountain of my youth, and what brands me as the crazy, unrepenting, hedonistic individual that I am.

Van Halen IS and ALWAYS WILL BE the BEST band EVER!

    Let's ROCK!

Good post pete. I am never ashamed to be a Van Halen fan. Even with all this bullshit going on. I still stick my head up high everytime I mention Van Halen. I still say the are one of the best Rock bands out there and always will be. So what ever happens happens. We can't make them get back together they are just going have to grow up one of these days. For now I will just keep playing my VH cds like always with my hand in the air.

It's a difficult sentiment to dispute, but it reminds me of a point a few of us made some two years ago in this very forum -

This fractured community of fans is nothing more than a reflection of the band's own divisiveness.

Taken in the context of Van Halen's history, I sometimes wonder how our behavior could be any different.

I suppose if one reminds themselves that the members of this band, past and present, need no activists outside of their relationship with each other. Regardless if the in-fighting was taken to the public eye or not, cheering sections for disfuctional friendships or partnerships isn't what is needed to remind these asshole musicans to get their shit together and start making music once again.

I might agree if I thought that our little dysfunctional cheering sections - excellent terminology, btw - had any impact on the band. But I submit to you that they do not - and you yourself seemed to be on this same track. I doubt that any of the band members even know the extent of what goes on here, much less submit to the influence of their respective factions. And if they can't tell a UFF'er from an EUAS'er, then what difference do those factions really make in Van Halen's plans?

Our attitude is a reflection of the band's. Not vice-versa. And the only way the general mood around here will improve is if Van Halen takes the right sort of decisive action.

They are the prime movers, here.
