Greatest moment(s) for the band was probably suceeding after Roth left . 1984 was a great year for them also .

I'd say when they walked out on stage at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards.

    You did say "moment."

Even if a few moments, or a few days later, it was one of worst Van Halen moments of all time: when we found out that the "reunion" was over.

I'd say when they hired Cherone instead of Roth.

The day they finished recording "Fair Warning".

The single greatest rock n' roll record ever recorded. Nothing has come even close to it since.

Eddie's guitar solo in Michael Jackson's "Beat it". This opened the world's eyes on a larger scale to the man's talent. Prior to that moment, Van Halen to me, was an underground type of band, not really a top 40 commodity. After that smash hit, 1984 came out to the masses! Their songs were all of a sudden getting radio airplay on top 40 radio stations all across the country as well as the traditional rock stations that they were accustomed to.

While this is probably true, it hasnt happened yet, and we dont know who/what or when. But this may be their best moment for the future.

For me, it was certainly the 96 MTV appearance on stage. I could hardly contain myself, and could not believe my eyes. Even though you could tell it was a somewhat "akward" situation for the VH bros., it showed to everyone how important Van Halen is to the music world.

Too bad their worst moment came shorty thereafter.

I think it was the VMA as well. But that was also their worst moment. I was shocked as hell when they all walked out together. They got that standing ovation, RWTD was playing, they looked good out there! But it quickly vanished when I saw Dave shoving everybody out of the way to talk in the mic, and Ed's reaction to Dave's eagerness to be in the spotlight... I immediately knew right then and there that it would not work and there was something wrong. Dave saying the sky's the limit, Ed saying "2 songs and 2 videos, then we'll see what happens". I knew something was wrong.

It was their greatest moment immediately followed by their worst moment.

I'm sorry, I can't agree that the 96 VMA Awards was their greatest moment of all time.

Sure, it was a great moment, but not their greatest to me.

That would have to be when Van Halen was released and it (to quote Eddie) gave rock music a shot in the arm.

There are other great moments (Solo on Beat It, Fair Warning and tracks 15, 16 and 17 on BOV1), but releasing VH1 has got to be their greatest moment !
