Miracles do happen.

    Got an email the other day from the VH store and they said the new issue of The Inside would be a double issue concentrating on the tours for 1979 and 1980. Should be in the mail late December.

    Yeah, I got that email too. The stupid part is this double issue is going to count as two issues on our subscriptions; #17 and #18. Now that may seem obvious, but after waiting 18 months for my QUARTERLY magazine, the least they could do is make the double issue only count as one on the subscription.

    Of course, it's probably irrelevant anyway since most of us aren't likely to live long enough to see Issue #19.

    Who all subscribes to it here? I thought about it once, but decided it wasn't worth it. In hindsight I might have been right.

It's a pretty thin magazine, the ones I've got are only about 30 pages at the maximum. But even considering that, I'd still consider it money well spent if they actually came out with any frequency (I don't know, like maybe, oh just off the top of my head, QUARTERLY ).

    Anyone who has the last issue (#16) should read the Letter From the Editor. Given how long it's been since it came out, it's quite funny, though certainly not intentionally so. I don't feel like typing it all, but here's the last part of it;

quote:
We are now Unofficial again. Van Halen's current state of limbo makes it impossible for us to publish a quarterly magazine in an Official capacity. Edward, Alex and Mike aren't interested in our crackerjack coverage of the 1978 World Tour, or any other aspect of the past. They lived it, remember? Fans, on the other hand, love old material, photos and interviews. If we devoted each issue of The Inside strictly to current Van Halen news, there would be 32 blank pages in your mailbox every three months. There are 25 kick-ass years of Van Halen to remember. We've only just begun.

    This message was in the last Inside we got, which arrived in July of 2000.

    Here's the email from the Inside;

quote:
The next issue of ''The Inside'' Van Halen magazine will be a double issue,
    #17/18, combined. The entire issue will focus on the 1979 and 1980 Van
    Halen World Tours. It is undoubtedly one of our best issues! The double
    issue will be mailed to all subscribers in late December and will arrive in
    early January. Thanks for your patience!

    Maybe it is just being considered as one issue on the subscription, I just assumed it was two since it shows as being issue 17 and 18. Seems like something they should have specified, but you can't ask too much when they're so obviously busy.

    I can't wait for this issue, as well as the follow-up, which by my calculation should arrive about July 2003. Maybe it will feature a review of the new Van Halen album.

    I subscribe, though I signed up a year and a half ago, and only got 1 issue

    I would definitely recommend it, if it weren't for the long wait between issues. The pictures alone are worth the price (I collect them), and the articles are great reads. I guarantee that once VH returns with new music (which they will, someday), we will see less time between issues.

    When it first came out it was well worth the money. Cool pictures, good info and some really good interviews. I have been a subscriber since issue #1. Actually just signed up for another 2 years before issue #16 came out. It's been way too long and hopefully they will get back on track and start being a quarterly magazine again.

    Do you think it's possible that the release of the new magazine(s) could be correlated with some new Van Halen news. Probably wishful thinking. The Inside is a pretty cool magazine. I missed getting the first few issues but have every magazine since issue 7. I'm not sure I'll subscribe again until VH gets their act together and we're guaranteed a few subscriptions.

    Wasn't there a post like this about a year ago saying a new Inside was coming back then?

    Of course, if it counts as two issues, the people with one left on their subscription will probably only get half of it in the mail

    At first I was expecting it to be two pages with NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS plastered inside it in 200-point bold font.

    Damn good thing I didn't subscribe

    I'm surprised that nobody has tried to sue them. Seems like everybody is suing everybody else these days.

    Hopefully, this will coincide with some real news from the band.

    I've never subscribed, which is surprising considering that I'll buy anything that says "Van Halen" on it. But I've spent a few hours poring over VHML friends' stacks of back issues and I've always thought it was a very well done magazine, official or not.
