First, let me say that I feel your pain. I have been a VH fan since 1983 and I have checked out this board frequently in the past few days.

Here is my take on this whole situation. I have had the opportunity to work with many famous bands over the past few years. The one thing I have learned is that when you become extremely successful you cannot control your own destiny.

Add to the mix managers, attorneys, public relations reps, tour crew, record management, families, fans, etc. Then you can understand why these guys can't communicate like normal human beings.

"There is a message board created about you, the least you could do is post a message." Exactly, I agree. However, when you reach the VH status everything you do is disected word for word. Management discourages posting off the record on message boards and most musicans comply.

Health Concerns- Many of us don't know exactly how serious the health concerns effected Ed and Alex too. These guys aren't 20 anymore.

Roth- Have you ever known a person that your friends loved, but you couldn't stand? The DLR question seems so simple, yet many of us have never really learned all of the inside details of this relationship.

Brad- Holy Shit!!! Van Halen is the only major band that has a webmaster as a spokesperson. Quick story, I once knew a quiet guy who won a contest to spend a weekend in the studio with Metallica. A month later Lars hired him as his personal assistant. The guy had no talent, no personality, etc. Anyway, after a few months you would think the guy was Jimmy Page. If you ever work with road crews and roadies you learn that the weakest develop the strongest egos

What to do next- My personal opinion is to not take everything so seriously. At this point, if Van Halen didn't do anything for another 3 years would you be surpised? I know I wouldn't.

Ignore Brad. I for one think you guys do a great job entertaining yourselfs on these message boards when nothing is going on.

Bottom line, keep having fun, keep giving Brad shit, keep talking about the old days, and wait..wait...wait...Something will happen eventually, when you least expect it.

Welcome dude, good post. I know personally I'd like to see an official release. Not just to The Links but to all fans. Just go through their usual channels. You are dead on about Brad IMO. He likes to throw us a scrap of info that may or may not be true when we don't care to hear from him at all.
All that being said you bring up some good thoughts.

Artstar: Welcome!!!

Gotta question for you. I, too, have worked with many touring acts (mostly during the '80's). I tell my friends that the Country acts put the Rock acts to shame when it comes to partying on the road. Agree? Disagree?

Welcome to the board Artstar. Great post from a first time poster. I dig what you're saying in the Brad situation. Once a fan, now an inside with and ego bigger than DLR himself...possible??

BTW..can I assume you are a drummer by your username?

Excellent post! It kind of makes me feel better about the whole VH situation. Let's remember the old times. I remember coming home from grade-school and putting in the Van Halen I 8-track and turning it up as loud as possible before the rest of the family came home. That 8-track turned into an LP, and then a cassette, and then a CD, and then a remastered CD, but I still come home and turn it up as loud as possible!

Great perspective, did you get your screen-name by any chance from the Tama "Artstar" series?
