Even if Mike was out of Van Halen, Brad wouldn't have told you anyway because it wouldn't have been "newsworthy".

But seriously, at this time I don't see where there'd be any doubt about Mike still being in Van Halen. This thing with Sammy has clearly been presented as a "side project".

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

You don't' need to read so much into it. Of course Mike is still part of VH.
I'm very happy for Mike that he's doing something on his own with Sammy.
Mike has been with VH all his musical life. I'm sure the experience will actually be a plus for his playing, and for VH in the long run.

That's a great point! At least his chops will be fresh if the band indeed get back to work when this thing is done. If the band does really still exist and this is a side-project, I'm very glad Mike and Sam managed to patch things up and are just having a good time.

Who knows? Maybe this is a taster for a reunion of the second line-up? I really don't want that because I want Dave back. But if Dave NEVER comes back, it's better than nothing (or a fourth singer, which is still nothing).

I definitely believe Mike is still in VH, I wouldn't worry about that guys. If VH does something as VH again, Mike is right there with them.

I wondering if Brad had anything to say about Mikey's "side project".

I've wondered lately if in those NAMM pics Mikey isn't flipping us fans off... If Brad was the one to take those pictures, perhaps Mikey was flipping Brad off?

God knows he certainly deserves it. Brad has basically become Van Halen's P.R. machine and he just plain flat-out sucks!

I honestly think that Brad Starks has been labeled as the scapegoat by the VanHalen online community in this ongoing saga. The guy has a job to do and granted, it must be difficult to keep a lid on the current reunion at hand.
