I guess we will not get to hear 'jump' unless they play it on piano. I am looking forward to hearing Dave's voice not being drowned out by the guitars and bad mix. This should be a cool thing. I would love to see Eddie do an all acoustic set with Dave or Sammy.

MTV BEGGED Van Halen to do the very first show of MTV Unplugged. In fact, the launch of the show was held up because the Producers were trying to pull every string possible to have them launch the series. Eddie specifically said he would not do it because their songs were not originally written to be played in that style.

We have heard Sammy do acoustic things great. We have heard Eddie and gary do it together pretty well and Ed doing solo stuff on acoustic. It would be interesting.

Dave recently did an interview on a KC station that was classic. He and his band did all acoustic VH songs. What it boiled down to was Dave doing a comedy act, interspersing VH tunes along the way and yes he did do "Jump". It was hilarious. I wish I had a tape of it. The DJs just shut up and let Dave ramble. The segment lasted about 30 minutes and was very entertaining. I would think he'll do the same kind of thing on Stern although there is no way Howard will keep quiet during the segment. Either way it should be good listening.

he did that thing in Chicago too!

he played a couple of covers also that I'd never heard that I thought they did a good job on.

couple verses of some VH tunes in between the comedy. I'm sure he did the same thing at every radio station he stopped at on that little run.

it's on tomorrow...and on the Stern show, there's always the possibility of a bad mix, especially if Scott the Engineer is running things...

    "dave going unplugged on Stern"...

when i first read the topic, i thought you meant he was doing the show without his toupe.

what you actually mean is dave's going to warble part-way through a handful of tunes while bouncing his trademark witty banter off that captain of intellect, howard stern.

DR: "Hi Robin. Is that a banana in my pants or am I just glad to see you?"

R: "Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!! Oh Dave! You're so witty and intellectual!! The double-entendre is exquisite!!!"

HS: "Shut up, Robin. And show Dave your tits.

"Hey Dave, later in the show Alicia Klass is coming out. She's gonna stick a cucumber in her privates while humming the theme from Gun Smoke."

DR: "Now that's what I call a 'salad shooter'!!"

R: "Hahahahhaahahhahahaahhahahaha!! Oh Dave, there you go again!!!!"

I've got the mp3's of that in studio appearance Dave did a few months ago where he played acoustically. Frankly, whenever the VH songs hit sections where he had to alter his pitch, Dave struggled a lot. It seemed like the comedy aspect was simply to avoid having to do a song all the way through.

It is, however, an interesting way to hear those tunes.

I don't know why Dave sounded so bad on the radio songs. On the boots, he sounds pretty good. He seems to want to sing quieter in that scene, but the results are bad, because he tries to sing in the damn "Relentless" voice. Hopefully he'll sing like he did on tour and belt out the songs instead of squeal off-key and talking to avoid singing (as Brett put it.)
