I can remember my mom buying it for me on 8-Track the day it came out. It was from a store called Magic Mushroom at a mall that has since been torn down.

I got the album from a hippy record shop (back in the days when it was still legal to sell bongs in retail shops), also in a mall that no longer exists. But my mom had nothing to do with it. In fact she later wrote "666" on the label, because she was convinced that anything I listened to (even U2 and Stryper) was "Devil music"

Magic Mushroom..... wonder if that was $tark$' parents' store?

    FORD,

Funny that you should mention Stryper. Back in the late 80's, my wife and I were having dinner at a Mexican restaurant that was in the same mall where I had picked up VH II back in '79. One of the Sweet brothers from Stryper was sitting at the next table talking with his buddy about, get this, Kip Winger!

Ford, you can buy bongs everywhere here in Texas. I don't smoke but it seems like everywhere I turn around there is a bong shop here in Texas.

Van Halen II is in my opinion the "Dark Horse" in the VH Canon... It is so often overlooked or underappreciated, thanks in part to it's older brother Van Halen/Van Halen sorta overshadowing it....

Van Halen II is one Hell of a record top to bottom!! I did not purchase it when it came out in 1978. After all, I was only 5 years old that year. However I first purchased Van Halen II on tape in 1986. The year AFTER I got into Van Halen and would later purchase Van Halen II on CD in 1992. I made my final purchase of Van Halen II last year when it came out in re-mastered form!
