You know that feeling we Van Halen fans get when we hear a new VH tune for the very first time?

It's a natural high for me!

Anyway, what song totally blew you away
the first time you heard it?

My answer:Summer Nights (and I don'y know why!)

It's a shame it got so commercialized and a bit devalued because of it, but mine would be Right Now. Just floored me when I first heard it.

Me Wise Magic. I wasn't really keeping up with VH news at that time I had only heard that a best of was coming out. I heard it on the radio announced as new Van Halen with DLR and I was like What! And then the song absolutely floored me.

I know I'll probably get a few laughs out of this one but for me it has to be Love Walks In. Some may think it's cheesy but to me it is such a powerful song. I first heard it out at a friends farm when I was 13, with headphones, out in the open field. I'll never forget that day and right then and there I knew VH was my band.

I bet this gets thrown into the songs/videos forum.

"Get Up". After hearing this song on the 5150 album it took away concerns that Sammy would somehow make the band go soft. The combination of Ed'Steinberger trans-tremolo guitar and Al drums in the intro, sent chills through me. It's still one of my favorite VH songs irregardless of era.

Humans Being. I remember sitting by my radio for countless hours waiting for the new Van Halen song to come on. Then it did, and got it on tape and listened to it over and over again.

I won't laugh at you, I like that song. "Don't tell me what love can do" blew me away because I first heard VH do it live, before Balance was even out. It was on MTV, on New Years Eve if I remember correctly.

That is probably my #2. Didn't know anything was coming out at all. Heard it on the radio in my car and I went nuts. Was actually screaming and pounding on the steering wheel. I ended up calling the radio station and found out what it was. Great, great tune.

same exact thing for me. Humans Being came on when I was in the car, and I was just fucking pumped! Is that Sammy? No way! I'd never been so surprised by a song, especially since they'd never done anything quite like that with Sam before. That was a very, very cool moment.

Unfortunately, thanks to the internet, I'll never have a moment like that again. I remember hearing the clip of MWM that Stern let out, and somehow it just wasn't the same hearing the whole song after that.

    1st Choice: Eruption

It's difficult to remember back to 1978, but I was just amazed the first time I heard it.

    2nd Choice: Unchained

I can't think of another song by VH (or anyone else for that matter) that just leaps out and grabs you by the balls like this one does.

Yes, Unchained. I was a little kid and it was playing on KSHE 95 in St. Louis. I was just starting to figure out what type of music I was going to listen to, didn't know shit before that.

KSHE was kinda taboo in my house, my mom didn't want me listening to stuff like that (I was 9 I think). I remember getting really excited, like where has this music been my whole life, and then being pretty disapointed after that, because all the other songs they played sucked, at least I thought so at the time.

For a long ass time I compared every rock song to Unchained.

When I first heard 'How Many Say I' I was transported into another universe of glee and joy. To this day I still get shivers of happiness when I hear it.
