If Ed was playing "316" during the solo section of the "5150" tour in '86. How did he write it for Wolfgang 4 years later in' 90? I think he would be correct in saying he named it after Wolfgang and his birthday.

He just used to play it on an acoustic guitar against Valís stomach when she was pregnant. He said it would calm Wolfie down if he was kicking a lot. He recorded it and named it for Wolfie, even though he had written it earlier.

Yes, that's a cool story about that tune.
But why does Ed always state in interviews that he wrote it for Wolfie? I guess its just to be implied that he named it, and not wrote it, for him. It's just kinda odd.

Following that logic, you could say that he wrote "Top of the World" when he wrote "Jump" since the end of the latter is the begining of the former. He took alot of pieces and made new things from them. I just popped in F.U.C.K. last night, and it had been a long time since I listened to it... Pretty fine album!

The outro riff to "Jump" is just that, a riff, as is "Top of the World". "316", on the other hand, is a complete composition.

sidenote: Ed did add a few extra ditties to "316" with some pick scrapes and tapped harmonics that were not included on the LWAN video in an audio cassette that a friend of mine brought me back from Saudi after Desert Storm. I think it may have had something to do with "The King Biscuit Flower Hour". It also had "Wild Thing" which was also not on LWAN.

316 was actually a blues jam on the 5150 tour . if you watch the bootlegs it has a differnt feel and alot more parts. he talked about it in the guitar mags . but back in 86 he just called it "this kinda blues jam thing me and alex do"

Does it matter if he said he 'wrote' it or 'named' it after Wolfie? He did play it in concert back in '86 but it was a little different. Anyway, it's a nice composition and great idea from a dad to his son.

Glad you like my name! It was either that or Sinnerís Swing Set. About the Jump riff becoming Top of the World, before 1984, Eddie used to play that riff at the end of Dance the Night Away live. Pretty cool riff.
