and Ed says they are working on the new album doesn't mean they are making music with a singer. Ed always writes the music first without the singer. Maybe thats what he means when he says he's working on the new album. He might be writing the music without a singer and then he'll bring one in (hopefully DLR) later on. I know they wrote 3 songs, and Ed supposedly has a shitload of material to pick from, but Dave has always been picky about the tunes he wants. Maybe Ed is taking time to write new shit. I don't know, I'm just typing away like a moron, somebody take my keyboard...........

I can see Ed Al and Mike jammin' riffs

but sometime or another they have to bring in the singer and do some tweakin' to make the ideas into songs

True Nature Boy. Good point.

Since you seem to be the only one that has thought of that, are you the new singer?

When Eddie says he's in the studio, that's
like anyone else changing a flat tyre in the garage at home.
Eddie always says "You don't work music,Ya play it" and that must be what he's doing...playin around!

It would seem to me that if you are trying to rekindle a relationship with Dave (would make things much easier), the last thing you would do is keep him out of the writing process. This isn't 1984, these guys haven't been playing together day in and day out for the last 16 years. They need to redevelop chemistry, where their music can go, what their limititations are. EVERY band does that. If Ed, Mike, and Al are laying down songs and just assuming any singer will come in and throw lyrics over them, then they are crazy and are headed for WORSE disaster with this new record.

Dave coming in like the old days, certainly "1984" and throwing lyrics over the tunes he'd never really heard is one thing. We are talking about a world of change since then, the vibe isn't there, the mutual respect isn't there, and frankly, Dave ain't part of the band yet. If they can't get together to record a record, they certainly shouldn't bother taking the animosities on tour.

Agreed, Brett...I'd rather see a happy band with a great stage show with fewer sales than see Dave in front of three guys who are just waiting for the tour to end...

Brett, I agree. However, VH are a big company. Like all companies, they have a business plan. I don't think they are arbitrarly writing songs without a singer. They either have one, or working on a "official member."

I understand that they do not have an A&R rep from WB, but someone is looking out, or over them. They are under contract to produce some work. Or at least a coherent business plan..

I seriously don't think VH has been in the studio since July without a singer.

If DLR hasn't been there, I'd say he better wake up an realize he isn't a part of VH.

You know... I can almost see this conversation happening.

Ed: So, what do you think about Dave being back? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Al: The guy's a prick, we don't need him.

Mike: Word.

Ed: Guess I had better call him...

Al: Fuck that. He left us hanging in '84 and screwed us in '96. Let's just not tell his ass he isn't in the band.
