Okay, VH3 wasn't the band's best work. It wasn't the worst though. I don't VH has a worst album. VH3 was an amazing album for Eddie. His guitar work was awesome. Unfortunately, on several occassions, it sounds like Alex is being replaced by a drum machine. Plus, Eddie was setting the vocal bar way too high for Gary, causing some lyrics to be garbled. Nonetheless, I think I can honestly say I liked all the songs, even "One I Want" and "How Many Say I" (depending on my mood)

"New World" is this nice little acoutstic intro. "Without You" is just this blistering guitar licks. Cool song. From Afar is this introverted creep awesome song. One I want is kind of weak as is "How Many Say I." Nonetheless, with great rockers like "Fire" and the bluesy licks of "A Year to the Day," this album is pretty darn good. Not great, but near great.

With that going for it, I can't wait to hear the stuff they were recording with Gary in the summer/fall of '99. With a Led Zeppelin feel and Eddie playing cello, who knows how awesome that album would have been?

I wonder how many of the songs were actually completed. It seems to me that the fewer there are that are completed, the more likely they would be to show up on a possible box set.

I agree, it would be great to hear the last songs done with Gary to get an idea of where they were headed. Unfortunately, with the poor reception of III, Eddie probably isn't in any hurry to release any material that might be criticized along the same lines as III was.

I wonder if Eddie has any idea how rabid his fans would be to hear some of the rarities he's got locked away.

Regardless if they admit it or not, I think at least half of the new album will be filled with riffs and song structures created while Gary was still in the band.

    For better or worse.

I recall from a Gary interview a little while back that he said the material they were working on as the follow up to VH3 was a cross between Van Halen and Fair Warning.

I'm sure there are plenty of goodies stashed away in 5150 that most of us would like to hear!!!

I agree. I hope we get to hear some of those songs that were to be on the follow up to III.

Does anyone here recall in an interview after III had been out a while, Eddie talking about some of the new songs for the next album? I recall one song title being: "Say Uncle" and it was a song about a dominate woman...Every so often I type it in to Napster on the outside chance that it may come up.....It never does of course, but I can keep dreaming of unreleased VH !

I really want to hear it also.

But I know if I love it, i'll be mad that Gary left the band.

Box set is what it would probably take to hear any of the 3 follow-up sessions.

Maybe they will do what Led Zeppelin did,
instead of the BBC Sessions, they will put the 5150 Sessions.

Im ready to raid 5150 and steal the last gary sessions and also the rest of the VH material in the vaults. If this long wait for new music continues longer than expected im gonna have to resort to desperate measures!

I was reading the band interviews here @ the Links, and after reading the one with Eddie as he described his view of the problems with 3 and how the followup was working out much better, I would really like to hear the new stuff.

I think it would be a great last kick at the can for all the major acts (when they decide to call it quits) release a 3 part box set - box one, greatest hits, box 2 bootlegs and box three previously un-released.

I was looking forward to see what VH with Gary was going to do next - - - but am I sure that when I hear the newest VH - it will have been worth the wait...

Just found a piece of info by Gary in some Boston publication in which he states the album (followup to VH3) was basically done. It had 9+ tracks.
