van halen has sold over 60 million album/CD's in the history of the band with the dave era selling 37.7 million(6 titles) and sammy 20.5(5 titles) and best of(2.4 million) and gary 550,000.

These figures come from VH official site, yet twice I've heard or read sammy say his version sold more albums and were more successful...now granted they had more #1 with sammy but total sells NOPE!!! in fact after 5150 sammy sells dropped with each title, where as dave ended 1984(10 million) second only to VH(10.3million)

    well now i feel better-lol

Never believe what Sammy says Especially if one way or the other the question includes or revolves around DLR.

I was very happy to contribute to those totals. Hopefully, we will have more to purchase in the future.

I don't have 'em all yet. I have all the DLR Remasters, BOV1, 5150, and Live: RH, RN. I also have the cassetes of 5150, and BOV1, and the LP of VH1.

    Two things about those numbers-

    1) Not to take anything at all away from the albums, but the older it is, the more versions it has been available on- record, tape, CD. That has a MAJOR impact on the #'s. Take Balance for example, it has sold 3+mm. Not too shabby considering most people only have bought it on CD. Thats a fact that you can't use those numbers to compare the two great eras of the band.

    2) Those numbers at the VH site have not been updated for years. So you can add a little too all of those albums, specifically VH, 84, 5150.

The really interesting figure would be used sales. I gave away all my Sammy era Van Halen a few years ago, yet I still bought all of the remasters. Everytime I think about "U.S Prime, grade-A stamped gauranteed" I have no regrets.

All someone has to do is go visit a used VH cd bin and you`ll find mostly Sammy era (ou812 , carnal knowledge) . That should settle the score .

I don't know about that. Every record store in New York I have been to is OVERSTOCKED with Diver Down, Women and Children First and VH III.

Also consider that Dave has put out two more studio albums with Van Halen than Sammy did.

    Dave: VH1, VHII, WACF,FW,DD,1984

Sammy: 5150,OU812,FUCK,Balance (LRHRN is a live compilation, so you really can't count that and BOV I when comparing their two sales.)

With all things considered, had Sammy stayed on with Van Halen for two more albums and averaged the same amount of sales, 3-4 million, on each of them, then the sales argument is a lot closer in reality.

You`ve got a point there . Most of the records shops in the Bay Area have more Sammy era used cds . I don`t have a clue whats going on in the rest of the country . I see a lot of used copies of F.U.C.K. out here and that IMO is probably the best disc they did with Sammy.
