For those that are interested, a new interview with Gary has surfaced. He talks a bit about VH and his experience.

That's very interesting considering Eddie's actions in 1996.

If they didn't want to embark on a new career, why did they get Gary in the band in the first place? They had to have known, given the situation with Dave and Sammy, and with a lyricist like Gary, that this was going to be new territory for them.

I think that perhaps he meant that Warner wasn't about to let them embark on a new career, and that the fans wouldn't allow it either. From what Eddie said in interviews during the time (whatever that's worth), he seemed thrilled to be moving into completely new ground, even though he knew that a lot of people wouldn't go for it.

So, I think the reason they weren't about to embark on a completely new career is that the powers that be simply wouldn't permit it.

You know, a friend of mine asked me this weekend, "Is Van Halen still alive as a band?"

I honestly could not answer that question.

And once again, we owe a big thankyou to Gary for attempting to save Van Halen.

He knew he wasn't a good fit for them and he graciously backed out.

Eddie was right, "gary has no ego"
because if he did, he would have said fuck the fans and critics, I am making a shitload of money with these guys. They will have to drag me away from Van Halen.
But he didn't, so Van Halen is saved now we just need to continue to be patient.
