This comes from a MelodicRock interview with Steve Lukather.

Fuck all these major labels. I predict they will all be dead in 5 years. Licensing is the future. That's what were doing territory by territory. I don't need some asswipe, zit faced 20 year old A+R puke telling ME how to make records!

Good catch, Mike.

That is interesting. Let's hope Ed's spoken to Steve.

(And Dave. LOL.)

"Only Eddymon would claim victory during a FOUR game losing streak." - OLO

"Did I not say, 'I think we should shoot him!' I did. Double rainbow on this end. I require a high five. Out."- track 5, on the delicate art of banning

Kick ass perspective.

STEVE LUKATHER SAYS NEW TOTO ALBUM IS KILLER!:
I mailed Steve Lukather for my usual Toto album update and got another great reply.
Steve said: "Things are great. The new CD is killer....It's all good here and I am very excited about the new CD. I just wish we could agree on a title. That's real hard and then the cover art and then we gotta get this sucker out before the summer so our work is cut out for us!"
On the subject of recent record label upheavals and the band's own decision to go it alone, Steve added: "Fuck all these major labels. I predict they will all be dead in 5 years. Licensing is the future. That's what were doing territory by territory. I don't need some asswipe, zit faced 20 year old A+R puke telling ME how to make records!"
Couldn't agree more Steve!

My first instinct when I read this is to say that anyone who says "fuck all these major labels" is probably someone who can't get on one of these major labels.

This actually reminded me of something Vince Neil said in The Dirt, talking about the time Dave took him out for lunch and gave him some pointers. Dave said;

Don't go with a small distribution company. You have to have your records in Tahiti. If they're not in Tahiti, they aren't anywhere else.
I'm not totally familiar with the concept of licensing as it's being spoken about here, but it seems to me that if you really want to sell records, being on a major is a huge key to that. If you're doing things territory by territory, things are going to get missed.

It's easy to brag about the virtues of NOT being on a major label when you aren't on one, and have no hope of being on one.

Great post Glenn. I totally agree with what you're saying.
