I've seen him 3 times in the last few years. Each time I've seen the same show. If he's doing the same damn show for the 3rd strait tour I'm not likely to go.

Like leroy said, I'll go see the Punks instead. It's cheaper, and I can get good and drunk in the bar. It's just as much fun, too.

Some wanker'll probably roll his eyes at me, but he probably hasn't seen Dave perform the same 20 songs over and over, has he? If Dave wants people to keep coming to his shows, he's gotta change that setlist up.

Its like going to an AC/DC show.
Its the same show as the last one with a couple new tunes thrown in.

Seeing the DLR Band $45.00 + beer and food
Seeing the Atomic Punks $10.00 + better beer and food.
Knowing you saved $35 bucks and saw a comparable show. Priceless
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

I'm eager to see whether Dave (without Van Halen) is interested in having his career back. Playing one show every two or three weeks is not what Dave should be all about. And if he truly wants a career, he's going to have to re-build it from the ground up. First thing he has to do is get rid of the VH heavy setlist, but the first casualty of that war is going to be a good portion of the audience, those just looking for a VH substitute. How hard is Dave willing to try to integrate his solo tunes into the setlist?

I've heard people make the arguement that people just don't know Dave's solo work. That may be true, but there's only one way to rectify that, and that's to start playing those tunes live. If Dave wants to fall back on the familiar material, he's doomed to playing tour after tour where the VH material is the vast majority of the setlist.

But Dave isn't going to be able to attract 10,000 people a night with his solo work, so is he willing to take that step? Does he have enough faith in the journey to risk the outcome. The easy way is entertaining, but it's a dead end. The hard way is ultimately where the true reward is.

So some here would prefer to save $25 (and
watch a group of ripoffs -no offence to the
punks) instead of the actual frontman of
    Classic Van Halen ????

For mine that speaks volumes about these fans..
I guess these are the same type of fan that
believes Ed + (Insert singer of the week here)
    is still Van Halen ??

I'd pay to see Dave and/or the Atomic Punks if either came here. Unfortunately, I'm in a Canadian city that isn't Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, so we see a lot of tours pass us by. Dave hasn't been here since early 1987 on the EEAS tour.

And yet my buddy MikeL has seen him 3 times in the last couple of years.

There comes a time in every bands (or artists) lifetime when no one wants to hear the "new stuff" anymore. It's the transition to nostalgia act. Some artists (Eddie) are scared of that because that essentially means your career is over. I think that time is now for both Dave and Van Halen. I think Dave knows this too. There's nothing wrong with becoming a nostalgia act. It happens. There should be no shame attached to it as far as I'm concerned. Infact it should be an honor. In 20 years do you think N-Stink will be able to tour as a nostalgia act? Not a chance.

Is that time here and now for Dave and/or VH? I'm not sure. One thing is certain though. That time is right around the corner. So all of you people that bash Dave because he's touring playing his old tunes can go climb a tree as far as I'm concerned. At least he's doing something unlike you know who.

Again with the 'bash Dave' thing???

I'm a HUGE fan of Dave's. You've got one group of fans that wants nothing new from Dave, just give me the same thing year after year. Then you have another group (I'm in this one) that wants to hear new material from Dave, hear him take chances and stretch the boundaries. AND I'M BASHING HIM??? Give me a break. Sorry Glenn I knew after I posted this you'd think I was calling you out. It was meant for the people that call Dave a "Van Halen tribute band", not you.

    Sorry about the misunderstanding.
