This is from this weeks Boston Phoenix which has an article on Gary and a good review of Sam's new album. The comment in question has to do with the Vagina Monologues. Gary left a copy of the play for Dave at the Boston show.

    Highlights:

Only when Roth’s comment is mentioned does he emit a little venom. "Here’s a quote for you: Dave on stage is equal to the emperor’s new clothes. He’s the only one who doesn’t know he’s naked."

As for his cameo with the cover band, he says, "I knew I was gonna catch hell for that." It turns out he was going to see some friends play, and he didn’t realize they were opening for the Van Halen tribute band Diver Down. "They kind of put me on the spot when they saw me walk in. They started handing me set lists, and I was saying, ‘I don’t remember any of these songs.’ But they kept saying things like, ‘We have a member of the Van Halen family here tonight.’ Three Coronas later I was on stage doing ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ’Bout Love.’ It was no big deal to me. There was also one night back in the Extreme days when I sang ‘More Than Words’ at a karaoke bar. Alcohol played a role in that one, too."

3 beers and he's acting like he's toasted. What a lightweight. He's no EVH, that's for sure.

LMAO Oh, I can't wait until some of the more hardcore Roth fans get wind of that comment.

Can you imagine going to a bar and seeing Gary sing 'More Than Words'? How many people were thinking, "he's good but no Gary Cherone."

You must admit, that comment is dead on! Perfect words to describe Dave's worn out act. Ironically, it's the sort of comment Dave would make. Ha, Ha.....! Good for you , Gary

I dunno, but no matter how much donkey dick Gary had to suck to get with VH, I still wouldn't consider him part of the family. Pretty egotistical for someone who almost single-handedly brought down the band we all knew and loved... And I only say that because none of the previous VH eras sucked ass as much as when Gary was fronting... Way to go Brotherman Flame on!

Gary is a class act, and you can't blame him for defending himself against Dave's insecure comments.

He is not my choice for VH, but at least he is keeping his head up despite what happened during his time in the band. And for him getting on stage with Sam, that was amazing.

And I don't blame Gary at all for "bringing down" the band. That honor falls to the brothers and Ray Daniels.

I have to agree with Grover. The man that single handidly almost brought down Van Halen is Ray Danniels...

Let's see if I got this right. Gary talks a little shit about Dave and then immediately sings one of his songs from his era. I wonder how many coronas it would take for him to one of his own classics. What a OXYMORON.

Hey did Gary make any mention of Sammy and his clown suit. LOL. The guy looks like he should be standing outside a McDonalds waving at passing cars.

    Let me get this straight:

The entire time Gary is in VH, and Dave makes his snide comments about him, Gary says NOTHING in return.

The entire time Gary is in VH, and even Sam made a few sly remarks about the album and him, Gary says NOTHING in return.

The entire time Gary is in VH, critics and supposed fans of VH are making comments about Gary left and right, and Gary says NOTHING in return...excpet for "come see the show".

Dave makes a really shitty-ass remark at the "Sam & Dave" press conference, showing a very pathetic attempt at humor, what a really crappy human being he can be, and what a poor loser he can be, and yet again, Gary says NOTHING in return.

So, thru ALL of this, Gary still proves what a class act he is, showing complete respect for his predecessors. Now, the one time he decides to fire back at Dave he's suddenly the bad guy. I don't think his comment was egotistical in the very least. In fact, it was well-deserved.

His "emperor's new clothes" comment has hit it right on the head. Dave is, or was, once again living it up again, acting as though it was 1984 all over again. Now that the party is over, where is he?

Dave isn't to blame for anything regarding VH's downfall. Neither is Sammy or Gary. If there's any blame to lay somewhere, it's Ray Danniels. The man needs to be given life in front of a firing squad.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

    -George Carlin 1937 - 2008
