This is the reason why the only tour that will work would have to be with DLR. Because nobody gives a fuck about the Van Hagar catalog, other than already established Van Hagar fans, especially from the younger generation. Anyone who is buying the Halen back catalog is buying the Dave Era. I am new fan who has been introduced to the Dave era and then moved on to Sammy, in particular OU812, and nearly stuffed M80's into my ears to stop the torture. From my age group, 23, VH is DLR. As the new issue of Spin Magazine says, Sammy killed VH. The proof is in the back catalogs. With Sammy, the audience is going to be the same as the 86 tour and with Dave you will get people young and old who are looking for a slice of VH nostalgia. Time has not been as kind to Van Hagar.

Thanks for a younger opinion. I am 31 and I have not been able to watch MTV since I was 23. It is interesting to hear from a different age group. I have no idea what younger people really listen to nowadays other than the stereotypical(Which I don't even know if it's true) Britney and Boybands. It's cool to hear that new people are just getting into Van Halen.

Spin magazine usually has great words to say about the "classic" Van Halen

and I agree with everything you posted.

whenever I have a chance to talk "Van Halen" with people younger than me who aren't "die-hards" like most of us, they usually say the same thing--"the Roth era is Van Halen"

    MARD won't like hearing that!

I believe the key reason Dave era is more popular with young people is because it has attitude. One thing early VH had over the Hagar years was attitude. VH with Hagar moved towards an older, more mature crowd, with songs aimed at love. Obviously couples will relate more to the Hagar years, but VH with Roth truly epitomizes attitude, rebellion, sex, and rock and roll.

This is not true in the least, DLR has to rely on old VH tunes, Sammy does not. Sammy had a list of hit songs before joining VH that are remembered by many of us. I am just as much of a DLR era fan as anyone here but lets be realistic, DLR did not have much of a solo career compared to Sammy and does not "need DLR to make a tour work" by a longshot.

And that's why that erea was so fuckin' good. Van Halen from 1978 - 84 were the ultimate party band.

I don't agree with anything that Man Of The People said. Dave hasn't toured with VH since 1984. Younger VH fans remember VH better with Sam not Dave. My friends don't know VH with Dave only Sam since they saw VH on the Balance tour. This is definately an opinions topic, so I will move it to the right forum.
