I love these stories about 1st guitars! I'm lucky to still have my 1st guitar, which is a 1980 Telecaster that I received for high school grad back in 1987.

Man, that gold EBMM was a nice looking guitar.

Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed reading some of that stuff.

No I live in California so our weather is pretty much the same all year round. Itís never super humid, nothing like that. So the neck was fine.

How do you like your DK24? I've got one in the orange, HSH version with the roasted maple neck and the jury's still out.

Yeah you donít have the Floyd version right? Iíve heard those HSH ones are pretty hit and miss. I love mine though. Itís the reason I went out and bought another Charvel. Really love the neck. Sometimes I get a little thrown off playing the 24-fret neck but I get used to it after a few minutes.

yeah basically the body was a KNE and the neck was Musikraft. It had gold ping crown head tuners with a Duncan custom custom pup, original Floyd and just basic electronics. The neck was and still is a SICK, FAST and SMOOTH neck loaded with birdseed....

the guitar now has a Locke custom (Walker style large horned Kramer body) and the neck is exactly the same except I put a prototype vintage whale tail nut on it and an early 80's thin retainer exactly like the one Ed had. I think I swapped the PUP out for an EVH Franky pup. Here is what she looks like today....

Yeah I've got the non Floyd version (which I actually prefer since I rarely dive). If I was to do it again, I'd probably go with the HH version. But that neck...yummy.

I think thatís the biggest issue people have with them is that the standard trem just isnít as reliable as the Floyd. Love the neck though!!

I believe the original body was northern ash yes. The new body I had made in the pic is poplar because thats most likely what Eds was per Paul Unkert. But yeah the version you had was northern ash
