How would a DI out from an attenuator be different from the preamp out from the amp? I’m not being argumentative - I just don’t know the answer! Would this also be different / the same as sending the preamp out to a DI box and then in to your recording interface?

DI out from an attenuator would include the color, compression and other tonal properties of the power amp. And a reactive load is even better - helping simulate the play/interaction of speakers.

Here's a great video explaining it.

Power Attenuators get pretty darn close; but I'm not kidding when I say I swear by this passive piece of gear - https://www.mesaboogie.com/cabinets-...cab-clone.html

I've seen a video or two where people poo poo the cab clone, but I love it and don't own anything mesa aside from this - very analog.
