Does it cost much to run a website? Pay webmaster moderators? Why in yalls opinion would van halen keep there site up if they didnt plan for something new to be on it? Or is it cheap to run a website. I dunno

    Actually it's not very expensive.
I think they keep it up so there won't be more rumors.
And they always say that when you want to read official news, you should check it on their website. They are not doing anything so they are not saying anything, but I hope they do soon, when Gary was in the band they always had photos in the studio, what was happening, and I hope that soon we have more news.
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and Ive got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

Yes but you have to wonder how much they were doing that to simply be good to their fans and keep them informed, as opposed to trying to promote the shit out of VDIII because they probably knew in the back of their minds that it would be a bomb. I think it's mostly because of the latter--their own self-serving interests.

If they gave a crap about the fans they'd fucking post some news on there when the fans need it the most.

Typically most message board moderators aren't paid - they're volunteers. Ultimately, costs depend on what kind of a server runs the site...if it's a dedicated job, like what runs the Links, typically they'd pay about $100-$300 a month of the dedicated server. Virtual servers run anywhere from $5.95 a month to about $40. If the server is in-house, chances are there's a technician (or the webmaster) doing the work on the server, and the TCO of that depends on what operating system they run and how they have to pay their Internet backbone connection provider, etc.

    Complicated? Absolutely!

I'm not sure how much VH's webmaster makes...typically it's around the $50K - $60K range, though I could be mistaken. It ultimately depends on performance and their job description. Some webmasters are server techs and designers in one. Some webmasters run the technical side of things and have separate staff for content and design.

I don't know how VH's website is set up though. It looks like the band owns the server because V-H.com didn't go offline when Warner dropped them, so I'd assume they have dedicated server costs.
I'm one of those crazies on your block.

As far as I know, Brad Starks gets a salary from VH for running the official site. But it's not a typical salary for a 40-hour-a-week web developer because maintaining the official site isn't a day-to-day job. It's just a part-time gig. Brad does have a full-time job outside of doing the official site.

The official site is hosted by Sonic.net and I believe the band is paying to have the site up and running. I'm personally surprised that the site hasn't been pulled yet since VH cleaned house and the band is completely inactive. You never know, the site could come down tomorrow...
