    VHII.

A young EVH, 1979, changing the game.

The songs are amazing, the band is looser, the playing is stellar.

For the record, i love both I'll Wait & Girl gone bad, too.

GnR had Jungle/Sweet Child/Paradise City but the best comp, and I know how you guys love Bon Jovi, is probably Bad Name/Living on a Prayer/Wanted Dead or Alive. That's how big VH was. I know there's the narrative of Sammy made them even bigger, he didn't. They dropped in popularity when Sam joined but he did a great job keeping them close to as big for a long time.

Hmm, why these two albums? I went with Van Halen II although I could probably be swayed either way. I like Panama the best from those two combined, but after that probably mostly song from II. From those two You're No Good is probably my least favorite, which I realize many of you love. Neither album is in my top 2, so it's kind a wash really. I have a hard time ranking things... haha.

1984 was when I really got into VH so it gets the close nod. VH2 is awesome too.

For me, II, WACF & FW, are the holy trinity.

I heard II before i heard the debut, and i loved the debut, but II just resonated
    with me more.

II had this looser, but still cocky, vibe.
They knew they were great, but seemed more relaxed than the debut.

I laughed out loud at that last statement. Here's the deal. If I want to listen to Ed throwing down, then I listen to anything on VHI, WACF, and FW. I then throw in SGMAD, Panama, Drop Dead Legs, and Hot for Teacher.

When it comes to the Sammy era, I love the keyboard driven tunes and Ed's melodic solos. It was a cool transition for Ed and his music and I dug almost all of it.

Which is fine. But to say LWI is a superior EVH track over GGB....that’s clearly not objective.

    VHII...ALL DAY!!

Such a fun record. And a great transition from the debut to this one. As said, it's a cool, relaxed vibe. Love the party feeling II and Diver Down bring to the fold.

I like that it sounds completely different from the debut. I like that all the six pack have there own sound. VHII is so raw and powerful. Such a cool tone. And all the instruments sound so vicious.

    Good call.

II & DD, both share that party vibe.

I love the way II closes with BG, and that great ending section.

Yeah I'd say II and DD are the two most summer-y sounding albums.

I feel the same, JD. I still recall the summers of '79 and '82 and jamming them, hearing them on the radio.
With the exception of WACF and I... they all give me some summer vibes. I recall FW that summer and everyone being in awe of it. 1984, all summer. But, really, Drop Dead Legs is the only that gives me that summer feeling. Maybe cuz they didn't start playing it till much later.

I just love how all the records are different. I love that there's a WACF and a VHI that are nothing like those records and they just melt your brain.
