Is it sad that those sound like actual possibilities of what he could've written? As DD just said, there have been times all throughout his career where Sam just seems to mail it in lyrically and comes up with something that sounds like an 8th grade boy came up with. But, to be fair, there are times where I think Sam has written some really great cool stuff that really fits the vibe of whatever music he's writing to.

Yeah, he really hated that song. Uncle Tom's Cabin is a GREAT tune, though. To be fair, I really only know all of their hits as I never bought any of their albums.

People will take this the wrong way, but fuck it. Balance is my favorite Sam era album, but it doesn't mean I can't quibble with some of it.

Can't Stop Loving You - the lyrics make 'N Sync sound like Slayer.

Big Fat Money - it's ok, I still groove to it, but it's a great song that deserves better from Sam

Baluchitherium - not being able to come up with lyrics and a vocal melody to this monster? C'mon Sam, gimme a break.

Amsterdam - I know some like it, not judging if you do, but I fucking hate the Wham Bam's and Yeah Yeah Yeah's. And a song about weed by dudes in their 40's and supposedly through rehab, just came across as silly to me. Other's mileage may vary.

That's it. Some of it to me is some of Sam's best. Take Me Back for example is a perfect blend of words and music, knocked it out of the park.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

    Lol, ok.

"Wear it long, shave it off
    Life is hard, never soft"

Lol, thanks for.being so deep, Sam.

Not to mention the absolutely nails on a chalkboard, painful wailing and straining he does on DTMWLCD, BFM and outro to Feelin.

Now, his writing on Seventh Seal and Take Me Back are top notch.

To add insult to injury, CC Deville was recruited to play the solo in "Cherry Pie."

It was like the record company said: How can we make this even worse for Jani?

    Just saw your post, DD.

For me the only songs that needed lyrical help were Baluchithirum (it needed lyrics) and Feelin'. I love Feelin', and I think Sam was onto something with this song, but it needed just a bit more fine tuning. That's why I would have dropped it and added Crossing Over.

Lol, CSLY. Sam writes a song from his EX-WIFE'S POV about how she still loves him.

Not Enough sucks ass, too, but I know most on here inexplicably love it and how "beautiful" it is.

Agree with you on the rest, although I'm glad Baluchitherium is an instrumental.

This may be taken as the wrong way but some of this may be more about his limitations and being in a creative slump than lack of effort. Wham Bam could have easily been changed if Sam found anything wrong with it - I'd have to assume he thought it was cool...and if that's the case, you have to sometimes take the good with the bad. Shit, Ed must have thought that How many Say I sounded good, right?

    Yup, they brought him in.

Not sure why, except maybe because Poison was riding high at that point.

I believe Tim Pierce or Mike Slamer were brought in by Beau Hill, to do all the solo's
    on the first Warrant record.

But Beau says, by the second album, after touring, the guys got a lot better.

Uncle Tom's Cabin is their career highlight song, they hit out of the park on that one.

Jani had an unreleased solo album that I was able to piece together from various sources on YouTube and elsewhere. A friend of mine knew Jani, so I put it together for him once as a present after Jani died. There are some good songs on it, you can tell that he really wasn't a metal guy, he was a singer songwriter that just did the 80's hair metal thing because that was what was popular at the time.
