[h=Eichel donates 5,000 masks, Skinner contributes $53,000 to COVID-19 fight]1[/h][h=Money, PPE will assist healthcare workers, food shelters in Western New York]2[/h]
Jeff Skinner and Jack Eichel are stepping up to help people fight the coronavirus.

The Buffalo Sabres forwards announced crucial donations to support hospital employees and food shelters in Western New York on Wednesday.
Eichel is teaming up with Bauer Hockey to purchase 5,000 PPE medical masks for hospital workers in Western New York. He announced the donation with a post on Twitter where he thanked medical professionals for their fight against COVID-19.

"I am so thankful to all those medical professionals that are on the front lines taking care of our community in the battle against this virus," Eichel said in a press release. "The dedication to Western New York that they continue to show is incredible. I am happy to work with my friends at Bauer to purchase these masks. Hopefully, they will help play a part in keeping our hospital workers safer and healthier."
Skinner announced a $53,000 donation to the fund Sabres owners Kim and Terry Pegula started March 25. Skinner's contribution, which coincides with the No. 53 jersey he wears for the Sabres, will be directed to essential employees who are fighting coronavirus and organizations that provide food to those in need.
He also thanked medical workers for their service.
"I know unfortunately not everyone is able to stay home during these difficult times," Skinner said in the video posted to Instagram. "I want to say thank you to all of our hospital workers that are on the front lines helping all those who have been affected by the virus."

Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander says he will donate his weekly paycheck during the coronavirus shutdown to organizations that are helping with relief efforts.

Verlander and wife Kate Upton made the announcement Saturday in an Instagram post. The couple said it would pick an organization each week and highlight its work.

Verlander, the American League Cy Young Award winner, is among a group of major leaguers getting $4,775 a day for 60 days, a total of $286,500.

Verlander's salary this year is $33 million, which is $177,419 a day for the 186-day season.

The payments were part of a recent agreement between Major League Baseball and the players' union on how to proceed during the stoppage.

A New England Patriots team plane loaded with 1.2 million N95 protective masks has landed back in Boston after picking up the vital supplies in China.

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/02/us/co...rnd/index.html

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker tweeted a photo of the plane being loaded with the personal protective equipment that he said would go to the state's health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus crisis.
"Tonight's arrival of a major shipment of N95 masks on the Patriots' plane was a significant step in our work to get front-line workers the equipment they need," the governor later said on Twitter. "And it's an example of how collaboration and partnership can lead to real solutions during these challenging times."
According to a source, Baker is extremely frustrated that the federal government outbid him on supplies that were en route to Massachusetts. He worked with New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft and the Patriots to get these supplies brought over from China.
"No days off. Thanks to some serious teamwork, Massachusetts is set to receive over 1 million N95 masks for our front-line workers. Huge thanks to the Krafts and several dedicated partners for making this happen," Baker said in a tweet.

Robert Kraft and Patriots president Jonathan Kraft partnered with the state to purchase 1.4 million N95 masks for Massachusetts, according to the team. Kraft also purchased another 300,000 protective masks for New York state.
Those will be in New York Friday morning, Kraft said.
Bringing the equipment to the US on the team's airplane was "probably the most challenging operation our organization and team ever had to do," he told CNN Thursday night.
"It was -- there was a lot of red tape, but a lot of people cooperated" he said. "We had three governors. We had a counsel from China, our crew who flew probably more hours than they should have, but they knew how important it was. And, you know, it's just -- it's like doing your job and never taking time off when something's really important.
"And the team effort -- and I'll just tell you the response we've gotten from America when our plane came back, people are looking for good things," he said. "We are -- this is the greatest country in the world. It's time for us to rally together and solve these kinds of issues."

The plane landed at Boston's Logan International Airport at 5:55 p.m. ET carrying 1.2 million masks. A second shipment of another half-million N95 masks is scheduled to arrive as early as next week.
After landing, the masks were lowered off the plane and placed on luggage trolleys, according to video from CNN affiliate WBZ.

From there, the masks were hauled into the airport's Delta hangar where they were received by the National Guard.

"The Krafts, our partners Ambassador Huang Ping, Dr. Jason Li, Gene Hartigan and our Covid-19 Command Center personnel teamed up to get this job done and we eagerly await the plane landing at Logan Airport soon," Baker said in a statement provided to CNN. "Our administration will keep pursuing the PPE necessary to support our brave front-line workers who are working tirelessly to save lives during this pandemic."
As of Thursday morning, Massachusetts has 7,738 reported cases of coronavirus and 122 people have died, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University.
Baker has issued an emergency order requiring all Massachusetts businesses and organizations that do not provide essential services to close their physical workplaces to help slow the spread of coronavirus. These businesses are encouraged to continue their operations remotely. The order also limits public gatherings.

This was cool. A French Manchester City player bought some boxing gear donated to an auction designed to raise money for the Covid-19 relief. The gear was donated to the auction by the boxer's family because he died recently in a helicopter crash. After the auction, the Man City player gave the gear right back to the family.

CON THE MAN Conor McGregor drops off vital supplies at children’s hospital after donating £920k to kit out medical workers with PPE

CONOR McGREGOR was on hand to personally deliver essential supplies to poorly children during the coronavirus pandemic.

The UFC superstar, 31, was kitted out in a tracksuit and Dolce & Gabbana trainers as he visited Crumlin Children's Hospital to drop off vital equipment and meet with staff.

McGregor has pledged £920,000 to fight Covid-19 in his homeland, where there have been 1,232 deaths at the time of writing.

And the medics were clearly delighted to have the fighting hero pay a visit, with one making a love-heart shape with her hands as she posed for a picture with the MMA icon.

McGregor - who could take on boxing king Canelo Alvarez in a fight - vowed to donate the huge amount after replying to a Twitter post from Paschal Donohoe, the Irish minister for finance.

It was announced last month that 50,000 masks had been delivered as a consequence of McGregor's pledge.

And it is believed his cash is also going towards cardiac monitors and oxygen equipment.

Michael Sheridan, CEO of the Mercy Hospital, wrote on Twitter: "Huge thanks to @NotoriousMMA for donating thousands of pieces of #COVID19 PPE to @MercyCork #FrontLineHeroes.

"Some very happy porters collected these this morning at our @MercyfoundCork offices."

Clinical director Kieran O'Connor also expressed his gratitude, with the message: "Enormous thanks to ⁦@NotoriousMMA for his support with massive PPE donation for COVID19 @MercyCork."

McGregor retweeted a photo of himself at the hospital to his 8 million followers.

And Mary Leahy, the founding member of Heroes Aid, the charity that made sure McGregor's money procured vital equipment, praised the Irishman's help.

She said: "Your donation was a very welcome and positive contribution Conor.

"The hard work started many weeks ago... give a women €1.3 million to spend, she will do it easily...and wisely, esp when this donation from @TheNotoriusMMA was to equip frontline healthcare to fight Covid-19.

"From cardiac monitors, to oxygen concentrators, to face visors, masks, gowns, and the rest."

Whatever u think of the man,hes got himself respect here helping out his fellow irish men/women...a true man of his land

"It was certainly my 1st time ever having a role in spending a million..hope it wont be my last!
