Default So. who here is "essential?"

I work in the automotive service industry, and so far considered to be "essential." Anyone else lucky enough to remain on the exposure frontlines?

I'll be teaching from home for probably the rest of the school year. I think I'm essential, my students not so much...

I was wondering today if this massive disruption will bring forth some changes in society with regards to respect, salaries, status, etc. It's becoming clear that there are a lot of jobs most take for granted which are actually pretty "essential" to the lifestyle we're used to = truckers, grocers, mechanics, toilet paper manufacturers, nurses, etc. In the meantime, we quickly eliminated pro athletics, Hollywood productions, etc.

Maybe when things get back to normal, some minimum wage jobs will get a bump and we'll start to use some of the money generated by sports, Hollywood, etc. for the greater good of society rather than creating a select group of millionaires?

    Hahahahahaa

Well, my company is essential to the state, but not to some of the cities (construction), so we're running at about 25% of our revenue, and have laid off probably 65-70% of our payroll between layoffs, furloughs and hours cuts. I'm on 50% hours/salary for the next couple of weeks, I would imagine if construction isn't put back to work in Boston and Cambridge, I'll be down to maybe a day a week if not completely out. Don't really need HR for that few employees.

I can work from home depending on what I'm doing. My tasks can be done from home but I live in a pretty small house, no office space, and my wife (teacher) and HS aged daughter are home. So when I really need to bear down to get something done, I come into the office. We have cleaners come in and scrub the place down, and have just a few people in the office, so it's okay. Even though "essential", we've pushed most of the staff out to work from home.

I'm in the office now, have a call with our attorney in a few minutes to clarify some of the new sick and FMLA stuff, and then have to figure out some situations that have come up. Probably be out of here by noon.

I am not essential anymore. No longer working. I babysit the grandkids as my sons are both essential and working thank God.

I am essential, being a member of the aerospace industry...for now. They have several of our schedules staggered as far as working from home. I must've drawn a short straw, however, since I'm going in more than I'm staying home.

Basically the same for me. We've been working remote since March 13th. But I work in healthcare...and we provide a variety of softwares to physicians, including Telehealth solutions...so we've been busier than usual.

I was kicked to the curb in January, so I haven't been essential pre apocalypse. Still getting a severance, but that will run out soon. It appears I may be getting more unemployment. Republicans may be right in my case when it comes to not wanting to go back to work.

I'll take there cheese and peanut butter too.

Not sure why I am considered essential, but they do.

I work in a hospital, for the ICU, so I guess I am considered essential.
