At 5:36 he says he wrote half the melodies :

And I know Dave can say a lot of things, but he did sound pretty normal Dave in this entire interview and was not "on" (Stern called him, and it sounded like he just woke up).

Ok I'm pretty sure that Dave has never attempted a Jon Anderson vocal melody. He's not that stupid. Singing "Dreams" would be easier than singing a Yes song for him.

Well, surely you've looked up obscure ASCAP listings for any VH tracks you might've missed in your bootleg collecting.

Ok, so, here are all the ASCAP repertory songs for VH that are not released songs:

A F U Not Wired (either a working version or AFU was sampled)
    All Fired Up (same)
Blood from a Stone (written with Glen Ballard and Desmond Child)
Fire in the Whole (guessing sampled)
    Giant Beans (guessing sampled)
    Talk About Love (guessing sampled)

    Not that many.

    DLR has quite a few.

    Giddy Up (with John 5)
    Manda Bala (with John 5)
Nothing Could Have Stopped Us (with John 5)
Rainbow Bar and Grill (with John 5)
Red Bull and Pop Tarts (with John 5)
Shit that Killed Elvis (with John 5)
    Smoove (with John 5)
Wash and Fold (with John 5)
High Fashion Girl (with John 5)

I'll take a peak on BMI and see what is there.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

If I remember correctly (which is a crap shoot at this point in my life), they did Magic Bus in the breakdown when I saw them on the 07/08 tour.

Dave is just being a typical ex VH frontman here, exaggerating out of his ass.

They did "Crossroads" and "Mississippi Queen" proper on the reunion tour, and the rest were just messing around/scatting: Stairway, Magic Bus, Spoonful, I Don't Need No Doctor, Born Under a Bad Sign, and In the Midnight Hour.
