    Right.

There's a better chance Ed gets back with Val than Gary.
Probably make a better album than III too.

It is not about filling sheds or selling out stadiums. It is about the music.

    Right.

Look, I am OK with an album with Dave, Sam, Gary, or anyone who can sing. As for Val - I prefer Deep Purple/Rainbow over Blackmore’s Night any day.

Hate to disagree with you, but if it was about the music and not popularity, they don't fire Gary, the don't do a 2004 tour with Sam, and they don't get back together with DLR in 2007.

That's just the simple cold hard facts. Ed likes playing arenas and not clubs, and there is nothing wrong with that.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I will never understand the love affair with the Gary/Eddie combo. The music sucked and the tickets sales proved the fans were not interested.

I think it is more a curiosity factor and the idea that VH could have something "new" rather than a love affair.

Then again, I was curious to hear Mitch Malloy sing Panama and It's About Time. Pass.
Sings like a bird. Rocks like a pig.

Can't say if that is all true or not, or if it is even complete. But it does seem that to some extent the material (either entire songs, or bits of melodies, riffs, or lyrics) was used in the meantime on other albums:

    -----------------------------------------

    Artist - Van Halen
    Year Recorded - 1999-2000
Working Album Title - Love Again
    Label - Warner Bros.

    Album Notes & References:

    1. Left for Dead - Ended up on the Tribe Of Judah Exis Elvis. Note: The verson that TOJ played live during their tour is closer to the original Van Halen recording.

    2. River Wide - Later became "East of Paradise" which ended up on Tribe of Judah's Exit Elvis Album.

    3. Say Uncle - Later became "Celibate" which ended up on Tribe of Judah's Exit Elvis Album.

    4. You Wear it Well - Later became "Ambiguous Headress" which ended up on Tribe of Judah's Exit Elvis Album. Note: Guitar intro no longer exists on TOJ's version

    5. Rock and Roll Cliché - Later became "It's About Time" which is on Van Halen's Best Of Both Worlds album.

    6. I Want Her Anyway - Later became the instrumental EVH recorded for the adult movie 'Sacred Sin"

    7. More Than Yesterday - Later became "Learning To See" which is on Van Halen's Best Of Both Worlds album

    8. From Here, Where Do We Go? - Later became "Thanks for Nothing" which is on Tribe of Judah's Exit Elvis album

    9. Love Divine - Ended up on the Tribe of Judah EP album. It's the Hidden track at the end of the CD.

    10. I Don't Miss You...Much - Later became "I Don't Love You Anymore" which ended up on Gary Cherone's last solo EP album.

    -----------------------------------------

While reading through these notes again, "Rock and Roll Cliché" is also the title of a Hurtsmile song. So perhaps Gary used the lyrics for that song as well.
It's road to nowhere. As mentioned "It’s a very tight circle". So, unless you are buddies with Ed, MIke, Al, or Gary, you'll never know. Gary, Etreme, Hurtsmile, Dave, Sam can all release a song titled "River Wide" tomorrow but it doesn't mean that these songs will have anything to do with '99 demos except the title.

I do believe that these '99 VH demos are of poor quality, probably poorly produced (just listen to TWILY - on a sidenote, never liked that song and I think it was wise to replace it with Josephina which was the worst song on III anyway), maybe no guitar solos, maybe "I forgot the fucking words" or scat singing (no lyrics), or no bass (OU812 style).

As for a VH song described as having an “aliens on acid” tapping intro? I believe there are dozens of songs matching the description in 5150. You know, I actually believe in "ten albums worth" of demos.

Maybe it is the "everybody in van halen vs everybody in van halen" case. Gary doesn' fit there. Although there was this " John Travolta outfit — these big lapels and a crazy jacket" story.

    Mark 0:30 of the video.

Van Halens got a lot of bad blood for a band whose most clever song is about ice cream.

Figuratively speaking, ICM isn’t really about ice cream.

Not sure that ICM is the most ‘clever’ VH track.

Hmm...I wonder what track might truly qualify for that accolade....

Would fucking love Gary to be back. I'm sure they'd lose their "tour arenas and amphitheaters without help from another popular band" license, but if they put out new music with a real producer this time, only have 0-1 nontraditional VH songs instead of 3-4, and let Gary be Gary, that coupled with a tour including a setlist of all eras...I think even a lot of the haters would be at least pleased with that.

Assuming Extreme finally does their shit this year, maybe after that while giving Eddie more time to recover, we'll see something in 2021? Of course unlikely, but one can fantasize. Better than playing bass on his son's album or doing an instrumental album.

There was only one remotely 'traditional' VH track on III, and even that one was a stretch because the production was so shitty it barely sounded like Ed.

There would be no haters or lovers of a Gary-Eddie redux. Indifference would be the standard mainstream reaction.

It doesn't matter anyway. Eddie's retired. Live VH is now the domain of D-Ro and the Circle.
